We have narrowed the search down to two shapes oval and emerald our budget is 4 to 5 for the stone alone at a B&M
what can we expect to get for the money in either shape also which spahe would yield a larger looking dia?

Hi Confusedconsumer,You can get a ballpark figure by price comparison from the front page. The spread of the stone mainly depends on its depth. You can get deep emerald that looks smaller than oval and vice versa.

Thanks
I checked out the front page and the prices seem good I edxpect to pay higher in a store but its gret to have a real range to go on
One more question, I have heard that its hard to find well cut fancies, are the emrald cuts usually better quality than the ovals or vice versa? I don't mind the limited sparkle of an emerald but don't want a dud oval
thanks

Did you check fancy cut charts at www.gemappraisers.com ? It'll give you an idea what to look for regarding cut.Best way of course is to compare many stones and select the one you like most.Check Oldminer opinion in this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000488.html Emrldforher (a consumer who learned and searched for emerald for quite a bit) had posted his experience in these threads: https://www.pricescope.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000063.html https://www.pricescope.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000411.html https://www.pricescope.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000418.html https://www.pricescope.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000492.html

ok thanks for the links, I checked out the previous threads and the charts. So I guess what we need to do is see if we can find stones within the parameters that also look good to our eyes I am nervous about buying a fancy that is cut well The jeweler we are supposed to buy from (family freind) is pushing a deep cut emerald which made me nervous i like the ovals but am afraid of getting a good one
from the charts it seems the price range I am considering will be ok
thanks for the help
