I have recently had a 4.69ct Spess bezel set as my engagement ring.
It seems not to be perfectly oval. My Jeweller says its the spess not the setting that is not perfect and said stones in the bigger carat range are quiet often not a perfect shape. Opinions welcome. It didn't bother me at first but the more I look the more its an issue for me.
Maybe im just being ridiculously critical as no one else even notices lol
I have included a photo of the stone set and unset below

Based on the photo of the stone, it does appear the spess is not perfectly oval, and that the jeweler's bezel follows the shape of the spess... if you fixate on it, it does become apparent - but I will say when I saw your other thread showing various pics of the stone and the completed ring, I did not notice it at all - and I am one with a hawk eye for symmetry and evenness. Your ring is really beautiful and well-made - and I would consider your jeweler to be professional, talented and knowledgeable. I hope you are able to look again at your ring and see it for the gorgeous creation that it is.

It's a little hard to judge the bezel because the setting is tilted in the pic...the stone looks to my eye to be pretty symmetrical, but I will defer to marymm's expertise in this since I am not too well versed in judging these kinds of things. In the pic of the setting, the bezel on one end looks to be ever so slightly more curved than the other end - is that what's bothering you? My gut feeling is it's probably not noticable IRL. Could you post a few more straight-on pics?

Your ring is jewel of the week (congratulations, it is a beautiful stone and setting!), but I can't find an SMTB thread - am I missing it somehow?

ETA: Ok, found more pics in the CS thread - the bezel looks fine in this hand-shot!

YOur gem of the week is so gorgeous! I will say though, that if it's bothering you now, it won't likely go away. Does your jeweler have any suggestions? What about milgran on the bezel - a little distraction, perhaps?

Thanks :) Looking at the photos of the unset stone I too think that it is not quiet perfect hence the imperfect bezel shape.
My Jewller has been amazing and has gone above and beyond to make my dream ring a reality.
Miligrain may make a difference I was thinking too but worried it may take away from the actual gem (it already has a very fine milgrain edge)
No suggestions from my Jewller as yet thought I'd run it by here first and see what might pop up in regards to some possible fixes?
To be honest though I'm in love with this ring and think I just need to get over the fact it's not symmetrically perfect
and just see it as it giving my ring character :)
I was so excited to see it featured as Gem of the week too!!
I have attached a few more hand shots taken with my phone.

Yes, it is the stone, not the setting. Bezel settings accentuate any off-symmetries, be it an oval, round or some other shape because it follows the outline of the stone. I don't know if having milgrain will take the eye off it or make it more obvious because it draws the eye in.
