Here''s an oval that I''m considering. First time buyer--would appreciate your thoughts.
Oval 1.01 F VS2 STK-VTK N VG VG GIA N 61.9% 57% 8.04x5.49x3.40

Not loving it.

Thanks Kaleigh... the numbers looked good, but the pictures... too much bowtie, right?

There is a distinct bow tie, ask WF how much it shows in reality.

Does anyone have an IS or AST image of an oval that is closer to ideal? The bow tie in these images looks very pronounced, I''d love to see samples where the bow tie is minimal.

See my recent Oval Opinion Thread on Rocky Talky. My oval ASET is on there. My oval has the slightest bowtie and is often not seen. Good luck. They are out there.

Thanks, 15years. That thread was really helpful. Besides the distinct bow tie, are there other pros/cons to this oval? I''d would really appreciate an expert''s critique!

Like you, I am a novice and was a first time buyer. I had done research and had been looking for about 6 months before I found what I was looking for. Do a search on here about ovals, you will learn a lot. There are a lot of very good threads on ovals. But like any other fancy shape, numbers do not always tell all.

It the numbers on this diamond look good but I think the bow tie is going to be very significant. If buying without seeing it like I did- you are going to have to have a vendor be your eyes. IF you call WF- ask them to take photos of it and see if they will send them to you.

I think you will be able to find another one you like. Are you under time constraints? I will try and do a search and see what I can find similar.

Okay, I just looked at James Allen''s website. They have a ton of ovals in the stats you want. Their website has REAL photos and they will do ASETS and scopes. I looked at a 1.17 on there in F SI 1 and it looks beautiful. You may be able to get a bigger diamond for the same price if you can find an eye clean SI. James Allen will tell you if it is. Good luck and please let me know how it turns out.

How about this one at James Allen? 1.12 F SI1- you will need to call them and have them go over the description of the diamond on the phone with you. It appears to be within the budget frame of the other stone but it looks like it will not have a bow tie. This looks very promising in my novice, humble opinion. Item Number: 1092601

Thanks for helping, 15years! I checked out the 1.12 F SI1, but I''m not wild about the L/W ratio. It is 1.23:1, I''m looking for something close to 1.50:1. I actually couldn''t find the 1.17 F SI1 you referred to in your previous post... I''m open to more suggestions, thanks again!

Yup. I have a lovely oval from GOG, have you checked them out?? Jonathon brought a few in and did a video for me so I could see all of them. Hoping you find one that makes your heart sing. They are out there...

No problem. I will keep looking. 1:5 is the perfect ratio and I too had a difficult time finding one with that ratio. If I find something, I will let you know. Kaleigh''s suggestion is a good one too.
