By the way... Since this diamond is on so many websites (I found it on two others that makes it 5) does that mean that most jewelers would have access to it? I was planning to make a trip to NYC and wonder if the jeweler im working with would have access tonit

I find all the big vendors can get access to the same stones. If you are going to NY call ID Jewelry, they will order it in and beat any online price. Also, truly reach out to Jon at August Vintage and just take a look at his ovals.

If it's owned by one of the suppliers ( quite usual) then most vendors can call it in. You'd need to see it in person to see if the dark inclusion is visible and do check to make sure it's not reflecting around the stone as this sometimes happens.

No to this:

Girdle reflection clearly visible on very slight tilt - characteristic of overly-shallow stones. Search “fish eye” for more information.

Also, given that you were concerned about that black crystal in the VS2 from earlier... I would be as concerned - if not more - about the visibility of the inclusions in this SI1.

Hi @atiaofthejulii,

Quick question for you if you don't mind, what ratio are you targeting exactly...?

Hi! I'm targeting roughly a 1.35 ratio. I haven't been wanting to entirely eliminate those with higher ratios as i've seen some with 1.35 ratios that had what I would best describe as "tapered" sides so they didn't appear like a more rounded oval which i'm seeking

Thank you for that. Will look into fish eye a bit more!

Whoops forgot to quote you!

Ok.....Here are my thoughts, the 6ct from August Vintage is a 1.38:1 ratio, right at your target zone and has optics that eliminate any change of a bowtie, which also eliminates light leakage plus color absorption and it's within budget. You would trade a vaguely more round oval over all of those qualities?

Call me stubborn but due to my budget I'm not looking for anything lower then an F at this point.

Ok no problem, I just want to make sure you don't dismiss what could be a perfect and rare diamond through not having all the info that might help you decide.

I understand you're looking for a diamond that faces up white, this makes perfect sense of course, but I'm curious though. Are you aware that an I colour ideal cut can face up whiter than a colourless non ideal cut? In the video Jon published on the subject of colour absorption he shows a layman an E colour alongside of an I colour and the I colour faces up whiter, just something to think about. The video's below if you do decide to watch it.
