Considering an oval for my engagement ring - I have small fingers (and a small budget!) and would just love to get some advice on a stone I have found in my price range. I'm UK-based, and so is the stone which is another big plus. I'm a little concerned about the GIA "good" rating for polish and symmetry though I'm seeing the stone on Sunday which should give me a better idea as to whether, as a comlete amateur, I like the look of the stone or not. I would love to know from any PSers if there are any red flags or massive problems in the stats though. Here we go...

Carat: 0.91
Colour: F
Clarity: SI1

Depth: 68.4%
Table: 56%
Girdle: Slightly thick to thick, faceted
Culet: none

Polish: good
Symmetry: good

Fluorescence: None

Any insights, particularly if there's anything very negative that jumps out, or if anyone has an idea of how much I should be paying for a stone of this quality, would be super useful!

Many thanks.

We can't tell you anything about the stone from the information provided.

There's nothing really long with the good for symmetry on an oval.

We need images. And preferably a video, maybe an ASET. And you shouldn't buy an oval without at least a good close up picture on the net.

Thanks Gypsy - the ring/stone is at auction so I'll be seeing it in person on Sunday. No ASET images or anything though. My plan was just really to go with my gut, i.e. if I like the way it looks I'll buy it. I did take a look at those two JA stones, and actually contacted them yesterday, but sadly they're not going to work for me (and with import tax etc work out about $1000 over what I'm hoping to pay for the stone in London!)

I didn't realise the stats don't tell you anything about the ovals though - I've been trying to follow the cut guide Lumera Diamonds gives for ovals but it sounds like maybe I've been too caught up in it and I really do have to see the stone first. Unfortunately being UK-based I don't have the luxury of ordering and sending back from U.S. based online providers so my choices are quite a bit more limited :(sad
