Somehow my original post was deleted. So I am asking again if an expert on oval depths can give me the best depth. Have seen conflicting information. Thank you again. Reds

If the stone was say 8x6x4.5mm then it would be too deep across the width (75%) and too shallow down the length (56%).

It is a no win.
And ovals are the simplest of all

The charts at www.gemappraisers.com will help - but really the best thing is to see the stone, preferrably with an ideal-scope.

The current depth on that site says 59-63% is best but a few years ago there was a post saying65-69%. Want to make sure I am in the right ball park and then use my eyes. Reds. Thsnks for your help.

The people who post deeper depths are usually ones with a vested interest in selling the more typically cut, deeper model of stone. They look at the economics and not just at appearance of the diamond. A little deeper does not ruin a diamond, but it needlessly may look smaller in diameter.

From a consumer's perspective, a correct depth is a little better than too deep, because apparent size is a very important consideration.

So David, is the optimal depth @ 59-63%. Thank you so much Reds. This is so helpful

That is what he is saying. Dave wrote that site

Somewhere along the way I had seen the ideal at 65-69%. So wanted to make sure I had it right. Thanks
