I have been looking threestone engagement rings, in particular ones with oval diamonds. I have a couple questions, we are thinking of getting a pretty nice one carat middle stone, but are not real sure what size the side stones should be. Is there any sort of rule/standard to go by for that?

Is it realistic to budget around $5000 for the one stone and then between $2000-$3000 for other stones and setting?

Thanks for your help,

Since you are looking for a 1 carat Oval, let's say hypothetically it is 7.75 X 5.5mm.
5 X 3mm side stones (0.30 pointers) would be perfect for a "full look" that will not take away from the center stone.
You can also opt for 4 X 3 (.20 pointers), but they might be too small.

Price wise, $5K for a Class 2A (finest cut)1 carat, high color and clarity is obtainable.
$1200 total for both 0.30 side stones VS/VVS ranges.
$500 for very nice Platinum setting.
