Our darling little stay kitten was just killed by two dogs

How terrible, so sorry!
 
Oh Daisy! This is horrible to hear.
The poor innocent baby.
You were good to her, and that means a lot.
I hope the other kitten shows up. Give Tibby and Borris lots of love.
 
My heart breaks for you...and the little kitten. Please don’t second guess yourself. If only we had a crystal ball...we would all make different choices. You didn’t do anything wrong..and everything right..loving all the kitties. You are a special person @Daisys and Diamonds...I felt it a long time ago when I read your first post. I know you have many friends here..Big hugs..XO

You do have friends and we admire your kind spirit. Your kitties know what you do for them. It matters.
 
@Daisys and Diamonds I am so so sorry. I teared up reading your post. It broke my heart and I am so sorry you are going through this.

You did everything you could to give kitty a good life and make her comfortable. It sounds like her pain was swift and that she likely didnt suffer much.

When you care for strays and outdoor kitties...terrible things can happen and it takes a strong, courageous spirit to do it, so thank you for being there for the kitties when no one else would.

Be kind to yourself today....lots of hugs.
 
This is so horrible & so sad. Huge hugs to you. Irresponsible dog owners should be banned from keeping pets forever. Do you know where the dogs came from or perhaps you could ask around & find out? Then give the owners a bloody big piece of your mind.

You gave that kitty food & love. It kept coming back to you for a reason. Be gentle with yourself.

I’m so sorry.

I’ll echo others. This is not your fault, in any way at all - you gave Fluffy a taste of the life that was coming. Warm, well-fed, safe.

Please save your shots for the owners of those dogs. Then fire away. Who lets dogs run loose!???? It’s only a matter of time before they attack a child, and then they’ll almost certainly be euthanized. Unbelievably callously irresponsible owners.

Oh no @Daisys and Diamonds, I am so very, very sorry. What a traumatic and devastating thing to have happen. Please don't be hard on yourself. You gave this kitten love and companionship, and did all you could for her. I'm sending love, comfort, and many hugs to you. We are here for you.
 
I am so sorry for what you’re going through. You did everything you could and this is not your fault. Irresponsible dog owners make me so angry!

Are you able to get pepper spray? That’s a good non-lethal means of defense in case you have to deal with any dog aggression on your walks.
 
Oh Daisy! I'm so sorry! That is just so shocking and upsetting! You are such a kind, caring, warm person that I know this hits you even harder. I'm thinking about you and sending hugs to you.
 
I’m so sorry @daisy and Diamonds. It obvious to all who read here what a kind person you are and how much you love and care for the kitties, please don’t beat yourself up. im.so glad they had wet food for dinner and not the cheap store brand biscuits they had been having in the evening

Gary knows where one lives
He had to use all his personal restraint not to go find it and shot it last night
But we live in suburbia and Gary going to jail wouldn't help the situation
The council dog control came out but by the time he would have got here the dogs would be back home
i have to ring back today and give a statement and send the photos in

Last night he said they actually have a dog trap set in our street so its an ongoing problem

This morning i got up at 6am
it was very light and Tibby was insistent he wanted to go out.
In NZ csts go outside

the little strays had so much still to leaen about life and being a loved family pet
i usually left the laundry open for them but last night Gary said close it as if a dog got in there they would be no escape

The kitty was 2m either way from safety
under the car or under the gate
she was an excellent fence and tree climber and they all can get onto the garage roof
she was right under our lounge window - because the driveway was still warm from the day

its of no consultation but this morning i discovered its not dear fluffy - its the twin of the one who i thought was run over the week i had vertigo and i didn't find her till a week of rain
i now think that was also a dog attack
so we'll bury her beside her sister
There was 4 in the litter, but two looked identical and they always slept together
but last night in bad light and her little mangled body i thought it was fluffy
i tried not to name them and not to get attached
Ginge just turned up for breakfast and Borris was a big hissy pants not letting him in the door
i always worried fluffy will be the hardest one to catch - the little twin always stayed near the back door through the day but fluffy comes and goes

its hard with Tibby because he waa a stray for so long he doesn't understand he needs to sleep inside and stay at home
if i had had a job the kittens would have got nicer food but i thought well they'll be ok its only till they get to the SPCA but i wish they had had chicken last night
Tinky used to get chicken and steak on a regular basis
The dog control man said that dogs become more aggressive at night

anyway thank you for your kind thoughts and sympathies

When i picked her up she was so soft

She deserved a nicer life

Ive been telling her about being a pet and sleeping on a bed

I had just washed all their towels snd blankies

Now i wonder if her sister i found after a week in the rain was also killed by a dog and not run over

Even though i couldn't quite pat her she was so freindly- rolling on her back, running up to me with her tail in the air

We had to take pictures for Annimal control

I placed her in a pillowcase and we'll bury her tomorrow

She is the one not in the bed

She just adored Tibby

He was so patient with her

Tomorrow we will take ginger and his one remaining sister to the SPCA

Oh no. I am so terribly sorry for you. That is so tragic. Hopefully they can find the gods. They are not safe to be running around. You didn't do anything wrong - just gave so much love to a little one who needed you. I am so sorry, you must be completely devastated. ((((HUGS)))))

i am massively and overwhelming saddened and extremely sorry to learn about what happened to your poor little kitten. what must you be feeling ... so many emotions ... anger, sadness, guilt ... just to name a few ...

i am sorry for such a brutal senseless loss

please dont torment yourself, your intent was one of care and love. at the very least, may that bring you some comfort and fortitude

Im so scared now for Tibby and Borris
and Ginge and Fluffy
we have missed weekend covid opening hours at the SPCA because i had to bury her this morning
blood had leaked all over the washing machine lid in the night
its really hard to dig a hole with all the tree roots and then the pumice layer
i put rose petals in the hole and a tea towel so she's not lying in the dirt
then i found a sad little Mexican orange blossom that had never got around to be planted and i scattered some forget me not seeds and i picked some flowers

The cats had a wake of temptation cat loolies and half a tin of friskies each

The council animal control man came to visit
he said as he's not a policemen so he can say he fully understands how Gary wanted to shoot the dogs

Another cat was killed in our street this week, the council have set a dog trap
After a death of an animal the council prefer to prosecute and seize the dog so i have hope for some sort of justice
But i can't get it out of my head watching her take her last breath, all bloody and broken



I looked a wreck when he came
Typical lock down attite - but we are not in lovkdown here

I told Gary he,has to outlive me because i won't cope if he goes first

Im just washing cat towels
Tibby does his best but he's not that good with the letter box
it was freshly washed yesterday, yet he managed to half miss the box
No one is growling
I didn't even mind when a bit of runny poo got on my hand

There is no way Borris will be allowed back out after tea now, she can use her dirt box.
I don't know about Tibby
He is pretty persistent when he wants to go out - he is basically like a bartering ram on the front door and he mowels all night and Gary gets mad because its really loud
