I am planning to begin my purchase of an engagement ring in the next few days. I''ve done lots of research and at one point was ready to purchase from a B&M store, but I feel I can save a lot more by purchasing online.

So I am considering buying a loose diamond online, and having a local jeweler set the diamond. How can I find a good place local to Los Angeles area that I can have set the diamond?

I am also considering just buying the whole ring from an online site, but I am wondering how much of a hassle it might be to have the diamond appraised prior to setting, and then getting the diamond back to the online store.

Hi there,

I purchased my stone on-line and had it set locally, so I can relate to wanting to have the stone in hand before it''s set.

Can you provide some photos to give us a sense of the setting and the shape of the stone that you''re after? Those details will help determine which vendors might be a good fit for you. We have a lot of members from L.A., but many of them have purchased their stones and settings on-line with the help of our resident prosumers.

I used to live LA, so here''s where I would recommend. In the St Vincent''s Jewelery Center in the Jewelry District on Hill, go to the Mezzanine level in the back of the building. In the middle of the back mezzanine level overlooking the main floor, is a nice setting office (very industrial looking), I would take it there. I''ve used them tons of times and they will let you stay there while they set your stone.
