I'm in the process of trying to find the perfect engagement ring (hopefully). Some details I've learned of her preferences through bugging her friends are, a Rose gold band with a single (small diamonds) halo. Its looking like a very respectable 1 carat diamond (round). But I've read you can sacrifice the colour grade, particularly with rose gold and essentially get a larger diamond of similar quality otherwise. Initially I was set on F-G, but learned I could potentially get a J-K and there would be virtually no visual difference. My question is, I've also read the colour of the diamond is sensitive to the surrounding halo diamonds. Is there a sweet spot colour grade I should be focusing on? Right now I'm between F-K which couldn't be any more widespread lol. As well I keep hearing conflicted information from jewelers so I'm not sure what to believe.

I personally would not go all the way down to a K unless she's since MRBs in that color and likes them...even in a rose gold halo. I think H/I would be a happy medium and would look very white in RG and not have a huge contrast between the center and the melee in the halo. Most people start to notice tint in I colored stones so that's where I would feel comfortable unless she has explicitly told you otherwise.

Btw, there is no right or wrong answer here! Everyone needs to compromise to get exactly what they want (unless they have unlimited funds, of course!). For example, if you're looking at a 1 ct round E/F color, you could possibly drop to H/I color and get a 1.15 ct stone....if you were to drop to J/K color you may be able to go up to 1.25 ct. (I'm obv not factoring in clarity here bc I'm just trying to demonstrate that compromise is key and everyone has their own "sweet spot").

H-I is probably going to give you the best value...not too warm, but more affordable. To maximize the visual size in a halo with a round center, go with a cushion frame halo. For example, my ring attached is an I color, measuring 5.6mm, but with the cushion frame halo it measures 10mm on the diagonal.
