I was just wondering if it was at all possible to get a glimpse at what the optical symmetry might be just based on a GIA report? I'm guessing the answer is no. I assume that there is no (or little) correlation between a good HCA score and physical symmetry to good optical symmetry.

I found a diamond that is all the right specs and the price is perfect, but I just can't see an ideal scope or ASET picture before I buy. I don't think any of this matters to my girlfriend. Her requirements are "big and shiny" this is more just me being picky. I'm an engineer so I appreciate clean symmetrical lines.

GIA reports only offer a bare bones amount of information. They average and the round their measurements, and those measurements offer us little insight into predicted light performance of the stone and no information about optical symmetry. In order to determine either, you need more information. An ideal scope image or ASET image is a better predictor of light performance and HA images from a Heart and Arrow viewer will give you the information you need to determine optical symmetry.

If either or both are important to you then I would recommend working with a vendor that can supply you with all the information you need to make an informed purchase.
