Delonn,

We did decide to get the 1.63. Here are it''s variances:

crown angle dev.- .14
pavilion angle dev.- .21
table dev.- .25

All I can tell you is that it looked great. The other stone was not quite as tight, but it looked great, too. I wouldn''t have known the difference if I had not seen the numbers. I am glad to know I am getting a very well cut stone, though! It''s mind pleasing and visually pleasing, and that''s good for me!

Thanks for the input everyone. DS, Congrats on the stone...you made an excellent purchase!

The pav. range on stone #1 was much greater than I was hoping for. ;( However, what is weird is that the AGS cert shows a girld range of 1.7%-4% while the Sarin shows a much tighter range of 1.9%-2.3%. Can anyone explain this?

Although the pav angles are not tight, I think it is worth seeing in person as I''m not sure how much of an impact that will have. I cannot imagine that the optical symmetry will be worse than the original...thoughts? As soon as I get the Ideal-scope, I''ll view my current 1.71 and return it for Stone #1. Whichever one I like better is the one I will get. Although stone #2 has tighter pav angles, I''m thinking that 40.2-40.6 might be a tad too shallow.

Basically, I believe that I''m over my DOCD as I''d be perfectly happy with my original. No place, online or B&M, has been able to come within $500 of my original stone. I also like the fact that it''s a VS1, its 7.8mm, its inscribed, a strong H, and its only ~$100 more than the others.

Finding the perfect diamond is a slippery slope as you can always find a better rock...

they are measuring it different:
ags numbers are the thinnest and thickest parts of the girdle not a range and the sarin numbers are the measured in between and is a range.

Gee, Storm

Relevant to girdle measurements :

My Sarin reports provide the measurements at the bezel facet juntions (8) the junction of the halves ( 8) and the valleys ( 16)

How is that a range?

What you are referring to is most likely the abbreviated report it issues, rather than the comprehensive one.

Storm is right though. AGS reports the thinnest and the thickest area of the girdle, thus showing what seems a horrible variance.

And with Sarin, it depends on which part of the report is released. In a concise format, it is generally a range, while you can also get all possible measurements, but most vendors do not release that format.

Live long,
