Choosing between these 2 stones: what is your opinion? The 2.1 ct VS2 is obviously cleaner internally, but to my eye, seems whiter? Also maybe a touch more brilliant? The 2.2ct is $13,800, the 2.1ct is $15,200 (both are on hold for me at the moment).

Setting: Platinum Solitaire

Preferences: white facing up, eye-clean stone, as brilliant as possible, best value.

Questions: is the 2.2ct stone likely eye-clean? And, will it look white facing up? Which is the likely better performing stone from a practical perspective?

From a price perspective, the 2.2ct J SI2 is $1400 less than the 2.1ct J VS2; I would rather go with that stone is performance is similar and it is larger for less $. Of course, it is cheaper for a reason, I am sure. And the woman I am buying it for is not picky; she won't be upset if it is an eye-clean SI2 or not a G-color, as long as it is a beautiful stone.

Thank you all for your help. This forum has been an amazing trove of knowledge! Especially for those of us who live in the sticks and without a reputable jeweler nearby!

Cant decide which stone I like better! Unless I'm mistaken, you posted the same stone twice 8)

Fixed! Sorry, noob mistake!

Honestly, I'd keep looking if I was you. Are you familiar with using the HCA tool? Both of these diamonds score high on the HCA and you want the score to be below 2 ideally. The pavilion angles are steep on both of these stones and they are likely going to leak light below the table. I'm not one of the experts here, but I am sure they will chime in. Also, that SI2 is probably not eye clean and if that is something you want I'd avoid that one for that reason as well as the cut. I'll try to look later and see if i can find a few alternatives for you to look at.

At your price point, here are some viable options:

If you have to stay above 2ct:
2.125ct, K, SI1

If the recipient is not color sensitive, consider the August Vintage Round option:
2.07ct, L, VS1

A stone like this balances cut, clarity, and color within your budget very well:

1.844ct, J, VS2

Thank you! I will keep an eye out. Will a K color stone still be colorless facing up, or do I need to look at J? She wants 2 ct....

And no, not familiar with the HCA tool. I will do some homework on that one as well! Thank you!

Thank you! I will use that calculator.

Any more links to stones that might work? Max budget 16k? I appreciate the help!

A stone with an HCA grade of 2 or better is ideal, above that, comes down to personal preference?

I think both of them have slightly reduced performance due to the cut.

You can stretch HCA up to 3.

I would suggest seeing some 2ct GIA or AGS graded J and K colored stones in person, before making a decision.

Both will show varying degrees of color, and it just matters how color sensitive the recipient happens to be. If you see a 2ct K and she feels good about it, that Whiteflash stone I had linked is a great value.

That last stone looks great. I gave them a call!
