Hello-
I am in the process of replacing my engagement ring- I have diamond picked out and was hoping that you could give me some opinions about the price and diamond. I also wanted to double check to make sure that this cut was ideal cut. My non-negiotables are that the diamond be colorless, VS2 clarity or better, at least 1.20 and I was hoping to spend about 8500. Thsi one is 8900 plus the discount for paying in cash- so about 8800 or so- I thought it was a good deal. also, do any of you have experience in buying from James Allen? Can you please tell me about your expereience. Thanks so much!

steep/deep

Not a good stone, you can see the leakage under the table even in the loupe image. The pavilion angle is too steep for that crown angle.

Use the cut adviser, https://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp, find a stone the scores below 2.

thanks for the comment- I was under the impression of 58.7-62.3 was within ideal ranges.. This diamond''s depth is 62.3 with a table of 57%- can you please help me to understand why you are saying this one is steep? thanks again.

steep/deep referring to crown/pavilion 35/41.4 not table/depth

steep/deep refers to the angles, not to the table and depth.

thanks so much- I didn''t even know to ask about that. I did see that recommendation on JA- but the amount of inclusions bothered me. There just seemed to be so many. DO you think that I should go up in price? My insurance company is giving me 12500 for my missing ring- my setting will be about 2K- I was hoping to keep my diamond under 9K but a very nice one at about 1.20. If you don;t mind- I would really appreciate some more guidance. Thanks again.

HI- so my final question is this:
how much weight y=should I give to this brilliance calculation over size and price- should I get a bit smaller diamond (1.15 vs 1.22) and an excellent grade or should I go with a bigger diamond in the ideal cut range? thanks for the responses!

Cut is everything when it comes to diamonds. Cut is what makes it sparkle, and glow in low light, and flash fire in the sun. Cut is what gives it lovely contrast. So you should really try to find the best cut diamond you can get. Budget and everything else is up to you, but we will never recommend compromising cut.

James Allen is a *very* reputable company. They are well regarded on Pricescope and many people here buy from them, and provide feedback on their experience. JA is a company that I recommend without hesitation to fellow consumers.

You can save some money by getting a G VS2. G color is still *very* colorless. You can also save some money by opting not to get an H&A diamond but instead opting for a perfectly proportioned non H&A diamond. Optics should still be great.

thanks so much- by perfectly proportioned non H&A did you mean going for an GIA excellent cut (60.1-62.8 53-57%) and then checking the light return to get an excellence return based on the angles? I am sorry for my ignorance- I can''t believe all of the information this time around when I am the buyer!! Thanks again, I do appreciate the valuable information.

The best way to hunt on the James Allen site is to choose "premium" then your budget and other desired specs. Then any that look promising, open the GIA cert and plug the relevant angles and % into this tool here: https://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp If the score is less than 2, then it is worth gather more information, which would involve calling JA and asking them to get you an idealscope (IS) image. They know what it is. Then come here and post the image for us to see and we will let you know if it is a winner or not!

These are one I like, ask for an IS if you like it too:
