Thank you for reading this! I need your advice...
I am in the process of building/designing a new wedding ring, and I'm not sure what to do with my old/existing one.
A little background:
My husband and I got married when we were 20 and 21, we have now been married for over 18 years. We designed my original e-ring with diamonds that were given to us from both sides of the family. The center stone is from my mom's side and is about .25 carats. The 6 side stones are from my husband's grandmother, and are about .15 carats each. (there were originally 5, but we purchased one more to make it even.) We always thought that "someday" we would recreate the ring and add a "diamond of our own".
(And as a side note, I haven't worn this ring in years because I lost a side stone years ago, and instead of fixing it, I ended up buying a plain platinum band to match my husbands, thinking that I was going to "redo" my wedding ring anyway.)
Fast forward... I have since fallen in love with a completely different style of ring, and we are designing one from the ground up. We just purshaced a 1.87ct AVC and it is going to be set in platinum, with a "nestled" halo, a partial split-shank, and some filigree on the basket/sides. I love a "vintage" look and sincerely hope this ring will be an heirloom someday.
I originally thought I would re-size my "old" ring, replace the missing stone, remove the wedding band that I never liked, and wear it as a right-hand ring that I would someday give to my daughter. So, I had all of that done, but it turns out the gold is "pitted" and weak and the shaft broke completely through right where it touches the bottom of my finger (on the palm side of my hand). So, I either need to re-shank it, or take it apart.
I have thought about using the stones to create a wedding band to go with my new ring, but I don't think I could use the center stone AND the side stones because they are different sizes. Probably just the side stones, and make it a 6-stone wedding band, that compliments the new e-ring, and that I could also wear alone if I don't want to wear the "big" one.
But then... what do I do with the .25 center stone that was from my mother??
I love the sentimental value of having diamonds from both sides of the family. And I know I would wear it more if it was part of my wedding ring set... But the stones are weird sizes.
I will post pictures of the old ring, and the new AVC stone.
I would love to hear any and all of your ideas!!
Thank you so much!
