Hi Everyone,

Firstly, first time poster long time lurker!

This is my second diamond purchase, the first being the diamond for my fiancee''s engagement ring which I purchased from GoG and was absolutely delighted (.913,vs1,f, H&A AGS ideal000 no fluoro). This time around I am looking for a pair of diamonds around the .35 - .40 mark each to go in studs for her birthday so I do not want to go overboard in costs (max $950USD each) but would like them to match her ring (four prong, similar color). Having considered, what I have read here, I am looking for AGS Ideal000 cut H&A,F-G,SI1 and will accept neglible fluoro.

I would greatly appreciate it if any experts could please give their thoughts and opinions on the diamond pairs I have found at Whiteflash and whether they think the money saved on the Expert selections are worthwhile over the ACA''s

Many thanks in advance.

Those diamonds are lovely and you can't go wrong with either of the expert selection or ACA studs.

However, my suggestion is to take that healthy budget of yours and buy the expert selection, Ready Set Go studs. For $2100 you can get: Expertly Selected pairs of apprx 1.00ct TW (5.20mm) ideal cut diamonds I SI set in 14K white gold

That would be .50 ct each ear! What a deal! They would still be ideal cut and the I color still looks very white.

ALSO, please post pictures of the engagement ring from GOG...I''m sure it''s fabulous and us gals here on PS would love to see it!

I do think F color is a little bit of overkill for earrings, but I do like quality even in earrings. I would get G VS2 for my next pair because I am not happy with my current I pair, although they are not even close to ACA or ES cut (my e-ring diamond is F, but you''d not be able to tell the difference in G earrings). So my advice is to get a quality pair and if she wants larger diamonds later, perhaps you can trade up if WF allows that for diamonds in earrings. I''d like to know the answer to that myself.

I see some G VS''s around .4 each for $925-927 in ES that might be nice possibilities.

Great project! Diamond studs are awesome and SO FUN to wear!

Just a suggestion... don''t worry about "matching" the color of her e-ring! Seriously... if you buy gorgeous, ideal cut stones, they will be lively and sparkly, and no one - and I mean NO ONE will notice any difference in color grades! (Short of your going to a fancy yellow, of course!)

My studs are SIs (completely eyeclean), approx. 1 carat tw and one is a J and one is a K. Both are AGS-0 and killer cuts. I can''t tell the difference between them unless I dig out a loupe and check the girdle inscriptions. And believe me, they are gorgeous and as white as can be!

Going lower on color and clarity (but never cut, of course) is a great way to maximize SIZE when choosing earrings.

Hi all,

Many thanks for your quick replies. Whiteflash advised that the ACA''s I had pasted were probably not ideal as the diamonds were to far apart in color and instead offered a third diamond AGS-4007003:

The have also suggested these two expert cut diamonds as a pair

But I am a little put off by the medium blue fluoro on the one.

I really like the pair of diamonds suggested by diamondseeker 2006 and also found this pair that look good,

And as requested, here is a picture of my fiancee''s engagement ring.

Cheers,

Nick.

Ohh, beautiful diamond e-ring!!! I think those last two were pretty good depending on what the inclusions look like. I''d personally go down to G since you really can''t tell F from G, though, and bump up to VS2 on clarity. But honestly, either set would be lovely and above the quality of most diamond earrings. I think it is great you are wanting to get her very nice quality earrings. I know she will love them!

Gorgeous ering, amazing!!!! Good luck with the studs. Looks like you''re on the right track. Also for a setting idea, put them in a 3 prong martini setting. All you will see is bling!!!

Hi all,

I've decided on purchasing a set of studs from trusty Good Old Gold, once again Marie was prompt in providing answers to my questions and as usual GoG were unsurpassable in their ability to provide in depth detail about the diamonds upfront from their website.

As you know I did try to deal with both Whiteflash and Abazias with varying degree's of results. All vendors were quick to respond, however, Abazias said it needed to go back to its cutter in Israel for detail such as sarins reports and brilliance scope reports and I never heard from them again.

Whiteflash almost had my business (I loved their large stock-on-hand choices) until the last hurdle where I asked them to confirm that the diamonds were 'eye clean' after having asked once already with no response, then they just went dead with no further reply. I guess they must have forgotten about me or been very busy with other things.

I don't know if its due to a lack of interest in selling a couple of lowly $2400USD .40 studs or that I ask for too much information but even GoG were a little slow to start with until they happened to list a pair of diamonds that were exactly what I was looking for.

But at the end of the day though, it was easier to get the job done with GoG because quite simply there weren't many questions left to ask because the level of info they present for their diamonds on their website as standard is just so darned detailed (here's hoping their new website design has even more info ;)).

Here's the diamonds I ended up choosing. I'm getting them set in 4 prong platinum with alpha backs.

Thanks everyone for your valuable help and advice.

Regards,

Nick.

Ps. I will come back and post some piccies when I get em. :)
