Hi all,

I've been lurking for about 2 months here and wanted to thank everyone - I cannot believe how much I didn't know and how fast I could gather information on this site. Living in Toronto, this site has been invaluable as for some reason there is not much in terms of quality inventory here.

I'm looking at purchasing a loose stone and wanted people's opinions on the specs:

Round Brilliant
0.92
G
SI1
cut: ex
polish: ex
symm: ex
6.29-6.36 x 3.82
fluoro: faint

crown angle: 33.5
pav angle: 40.8
table: 58
depth: 60.4
pav dep: 43
HCA scores a 1 with excellent ratings on everything except spread (scored a very good).

For whatever reason there is no inclusion plot on the GIA cert (dossier) though...

Thanks,
latebloomer

Could be a nice diamond, the GIA DD does not include a clarity map, the diamonds are inscribed instead. The spread rating is fine, most well cut stones score VG, the cut off between ex and vg for spread on the HCA is 60.3% I believe. If the diamond is with an online vendor, can you ask for an Idealscope image? This would be very helpful. If you aren't familiar with IS, this page explains.

Numbers look good to me.

Thanks for the responses. I am going through USA Certed Diamonds with Martin, who has been great so far. I did ask for images, but I was told no images were available but that I would be able to view the diamond under an IdealScope when it arrived.

Also, do any other Ontarians know if GST and PST apply? I have read through another link https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/montrealer-considering-usacerted.81640/ that only GST applies but Martin has told me both apply.

Thanks!

I should clarify that I'm confused because another post shows that both GST and PST apply.

It's only now striking me a bit odd that I had to buy the diamond first from Martin without independent appraisal because I did read in another post that Martin sent the diamond to D.Atlas to have it independently appraised and so images/Sarin could be generated, so I'm not sure why he couldn't provide me with the same?

From that thread:
"I requested that a SARIN report be run and that the stone was inspected to ensure it was eye-clean etc. After punching the SARIN numbers into the HCA, several emails back and forth and reassurance from Martin that it was a great diamond, I decided to proceed. Still being uneasy about the whole process, I requested that the diamond be sent to an independent appraiser first so I could have the stone verified and get an independent look at the stone. Martin agreed to this, so I requested the stone be sent to D.Atlas and Co. The service at D.Atlas was great, they verified the stone, and ran a LightStar report to evaluate the stone’s brilliance etc. (All I really wanted to know is, does the stone sparkle?”) All indications were that it definitely did, so I decided to proceed and have the stone shipped to Canada. Martin was in the background constantly answering my questions and concerns. I had the stone shipped to Martin, so that I could pickup the stone at his office and we verify the stone together with his equipment. When I arrived we opened the FedEx package together and went through the contents and continued to answer my questions. "

The post didn't specify what the additional cost was for this but at least it was offered. Martin has been great so far as I've said, so am I getting paranoid about nothing?

Awaiting diamond on Friday!

Number''s look good, I would get IS as the next step

Thanks. I mentioned above that I won''t be able to see the IS image until I see it in person at Martin''s location. I''ve read up on what it should look like, but it''s all theoretical.

Is it possible the IS image will be bad, given the above specs???

Anything is possible, but my educated guess would be, it will look good.

We picked up the stone from Martin. He was very good about calibrating his scale and weighing the stone, we looked at it under the loupe, the microscope and an H&A viewer. I did ask to see it under and idealscope, but he said he didn''t have one. (?)

The diamond looks stunning, will post up pics in show me the ring when it''s set. Looking at a traditional Tiffany setting with matching band. First, it''s getting appraised at H. Weinstein in Toronto next week.

Thanks again to everyone for their help.

Congrats. :)

Just as an update, I had this stone independently appraised by Harold Weinstein''s in Toronto and it matched the GIA cert. The diamond itself is gorgeous. Thanks to Martin and those of you who helped me! I have to figure out how to take pics in the H&A viewer though...

In case anyone cares, here''s the stone. My pic doesn''t do it justice - I''m still reading on how to take good pics...thanks again.

Sorry I missed your earlier post lb!! It looks beautiful! And don't feel bad, the best pics still don't ever do a diamond justice.

Congrats!

Congrats on your diamond. I think the photo looks great.

I am guessing you sorted this out already but gst and pst applies to you since you are local to USA Certed Diamonds.

Thanks guys, but i''m not happy with the pic so I''m sure i''ll keep trying.
Yes USACerted charged me both taxes.
I''m having the stone set this week, so will post up in SMTR.

I''m so happy I found this site, I feel so confident making this purchase and appreciate everyone''s willingness to help. There is really nothing in Toronto for most consumers to make these kinds of decisions and to even know WHAT they are buying and WHERE to get quality merchandise/service.

We''re happy you found this place too!

Please come back and do a thread in SMTR so we can all ogle your ring.
