Opinions on this ring

Hello All, I wanted to get your opinon of this 1.04 carat Princess cut set in Whiteflash uprong setting. I cannot decide if I like it or not. Any opinions would be great.

Very pretty! And the double prongs are going to go a long way to properly protect the tips of the diamond!

How long should it take to know you like a ring? For me the lapse is about 30s

The ring looks appealing and carefully crafted (and so do other close matches of the setting, either on Wf or elsewhere), but it isn't me considering the ring! Are there any settings anywhere that really impressed you at first sight ?

Actually, the knife edge uprong by Whiteflash jumped out at me, but know I am kind of considering the W prong by whiteflash.

I had liked the u-prong initially as well, but I didn't like the fact that it hid so much of my diamond. I therefore spoke to Brian at WF and he suggested the w-prong. The more pictures I see of the w-prong, the more I like it. It's very similar to the style of the x-prong, but seems to show off even more of the diamond. One of the things I like best about it is it has double prongs--they're just welded together! I originally asked if they could customize the w-prong with the v-tip prongs because I wanted to show off how square my stone is, but when I saw the w-prong from the side and how nicely the curve of the shank matched the prongs I decided against it. What was my point? Oh, yeah! I don't think you will go wrong with either setting. Several people on PS have talked about how much they love their little surprise diamonds in the u-prong settings and, as with the w-prong, state how much better the setting looks in person. Therefore, you should just go with the setting that calls to you the most!

It's a gorgeous ring. I love the little diamond underneath. But I think if you are hesitant about a design, then that’s a clue the ring isn’t right for you. It should be love at first sight!

Yeah, I am having a difficult time deciding. But I think its going to be between the knife edge and the W prong. I have not seen a good picture of the W prong with a princess cut diamond. Does anyone know where I could find a good picture? Below is the knife edge... any thoughts?

That is a really beautiful mounting.

I would suggest, if possible, that you go and try on a knife edge mounting. When I tried it on, I personally didn’t like the feel of the shank between my fingers – in my opinion, I found the knife edge to be a bit uncomfortable.

As everyone knows, settings are always a matter of personal preference, so of course, its really all about what you like. I do think that mounting is exquisite (the surprise diamond adds a little extra special touch). The knife edge design is quite popular but I would opt for a try-on before you make a final decision. Just my 2 cents.

Here's a pic from the forum (I don't remember whose ring this is, so I can't give credit--sorry!). Most of the pics of the w-prong have round stones, but you can probably ask Brian for other pics--please post them if he has them!!!

The W prong is gorgeous. I really wish I could see it in person. I heard the knife edge setting really takes some getting use to. I am torn between the two, but I am leaning towards the W prong.

What I had a hard time with in terms of the w-prong is seeing how the ring will look on my finger because all the pictures seem to show so much of the basket. So, I went to several local B&M stores (including Tiffany's) and tried on different variations of the x-prong settings. What I love about these settings is they really show off the stone! And according to Brian, when the ring is on your finger you really only see the metal from the top of the prongs down to where they come together in the "v" on each side. Does that make sense? In other words, the setting won't be nearly as busy looking when it's on. IMO, if you're unsure about the knife-edge U-prong I would go with something that's more traditional looking but with a little flair

Researcher, yes, that does make sense. Are there different heights you can have the stone set in the W prong? If so, do you think setting the stone hi or low would look better? I think have the stone sitting low in the setting may look more attractive but I am not sure.

I think it looks better when the stone is set low in the head, but you need to make sure the head itself is not set too low if you plan on getting a wedding band/eternity band that will be worn with it. If you talk to Brian and tell him what you're planning, he'll adjust the height for you
