I purchased this stone yesterday, but would like opinions

GIA certified
8.48 x 7.69 x5.47 (1.07.1)
3.04 carat
I color
SI1 (totally eye clean)
polish- good
symmetry- good
girdle_ think to slightly thinck
flourescence- faint

cost $23,500

I have looked at many, many radiants. Most that I have seen have bowties, or "dead spots" in the stone with no sparkle. This stone is more square then the others I have seen, and the jeweler said that the sqaure stones usually look nicer. This one had more fire then I have ever seen. The rainbow sparkles were just magnificient- regardless of the lighting- store lighting, natural light, or dark hallway. The jeweler looked at a dozen stones, and rejected all but 2 to show me. The other one he had to show me didn''t begin to compare to the one which is described.

Please let me know your thougths, especially on the price. Thanks. Joy

It sounds like you have found your diamond. You say you have compared and looked at many Radiants, so you have picked out the one that spoke to you!

http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fnc2.asp See this chart, numbers don't always mean a lot with Radiants as the eyes are the best way of judging beauty, but you can compare your diamond to the suggested proportions the chart lists, a good way of avoiding too much depth etc. Also you have compared it in all different lightings and it was still magnificent, it sounds like you did great! Some might prefer at least a VG VG for polish and symmetry, but overall it has to be the diamond's performance which is the important thing. Regarding price, you can use the search by cut tool above to compare, also being an I colour and SI1 it must be clean and the colour right for you, so well done! Pics would be good please sometime

And congratulations!

thanks for your resposne. This whole "numbers game" with radiants is very confusing. I have a chart from a jeweler which lists signature ideal radiants at a depth and table of 64%- 70%, and mine does fall within those parameters. I know this is different then what you sent me, which I have also looked at.

The 2nd stone he showed me, which was more rectangular, had very good symmetry and very good polish according to the GIA certificate, but it didn''t have near the fire. In addition, it had dead spots on the right and left long edges.

I have probably looked at about 15-20 radiants, and the numbers seem to be meaningless- they can look great on paper and look terrible in person.

I am compromising a bit on shape with this one, as I did prefer rectangular, but I am willing to make the compromise for the beauty. The jeweler seemed to think it was unlikely that I could find a rectangle with the same beauty. I don''t know if this was honest, or if he didn''t want to bring in more stones, but of all the ones I have seen, this is the winner. Joy

HI:

What Lorelei said, gotta see these shapes in person as numbers don't tell the tale nearly as well as for rounds.
Congrats! How will you set it? Mine is set with side traps and I really enjoy that style. But you?

cheers--Sharon

I want traps on the sides. The "vision" I have had is to use a rectangle center stone with side traps. This is why I am a little hesitant, as this stone is squarish. It''s 1.07 l/w ratio, so it''s certainly not a perfect square, nor is it a rectangle. On the Leon Mege website, there''s a beautiful square radiant with traps which I will show my jeweler. The first pair of traps he brought for me weren''t wide enough for the square stone- they didn''t achieve the look I want. Can you PLEASE post a picture of your radiant with traps??? Thanks.

Joy

If you really want opinions on your radiant, it would be helpful to have depth/table percentages and crown height along with some images of the stone and maybe an IS image. Without them, I really can''t say anything about the stone.

However, you seem to really love this stone and are set on keeping it. In that case, congratulations and I hope you show some pics so that we can all enjoy them. Your setting idea sounds lovely and it will surely be a knockout ring with your large stone!!

And there we have it in a nutshell. Don't get me wrong, numbers are useful, IS images, charts etc, especially when buying a round diamond online, essential for the RB in fact, but Radiants are especially a different proposition. You used your eyes which is the single most important thing, no use having the numbers etc check out if it doesn't make your heart sing. Far better to have a diamond which brings you that surge of joy every time you look at it, even if the proportions aren't perfect. Also it appears that Radiants can take on very different looks from the crushed ice look to the clearer faceting effect that this can be hard to find one which looks the way you want, so score here too.

Sharon thanks so much for posting pics of your beauty, classic gorgeousness which makes me drooool every time!

I am hanging in there, thanks so much!

( BTW I love your words of wisdom from Maggie Thatcher!)

Sharon, your ring is beautiful. Thanks to whover sent the links to the pictures of all the radiants. The first picture posted- with the 3 stones- is the one I am trying to "copy." Because the stone I got is more square then the one in the picture, I am having trouble visualizing what mine will look like. Now I am considering trillions as well as "elongated" trapezoids. The one pictured has princess and round diamonds on the "ring." I plan to have 3 sided micropave.

The jeweler has my stone, and I will go for an independent appraisal on Friday. If I am provided with pictures, I will try to post them. Joy

HI:

Thank you. And you''re welcome! Posting pics could be helpful in your design choice--since there are folks here who are very savvy with PhotoShop and create wonderful designs/images based on your specs--the PS moderator (Irina) being one of them.

I look forward to seeing your stone!! Congrats on your purchase!

cheers--Sharon
