* * * Also, does anyone know where I can get gem holder rings in person? I want to get one for this stone but since I only have a week viewing window I don't want to wait for one to get shipped.
I'd like to recommend that you do not use one of those gem holder rings: they're not as safe as you may think & it would be a shame to have to pay for a stone that got chipped because, e.g., it sprung out of the "ring" and onto the floor.

@T L I see. I thought peach stones look fairly pad-like.

@lovedogs I'm surprised, I thought you liked bright bold colors. Never thought you'd like brown.

I was afraid of the possibility that the stone would pop out but now that you bring it up Molly, I will be very sure to be careful with it, keep it low to the ground/table, and keep it over something that will catch it. $8 for 8 ring holders would be great if half of it was silver. I decided to just buy the 2 pack with 1 gold and 1 silver. It's won't get here for two weeks (ugh) so I will just have to use my tweezer (if I can find it).

Well, it's entirely possible that the little gem will shoot out in a trajectory that takes it beyond the padded table. Same thing can happen with locking tweezers. Some people like this kind of stoneholder with retractable prongs

but my late father-in-law (who was "in the trade" here in NYC) gave me tweezers with coated tips, similar to these:

Peach stones can look padparadcha like if the brown component is replaced with more orange. Then again, if that were the case, the vendor would probably sell it at a padparadcha.

I have first hand experience... With a vendor's 10k pad! Luckily it wasn't lost or broken. I was thinking of getting the stone holder but I already went with the rings. I'll just be really careful.

That's a bonus for me bc I like peach stones and they look like pads, just not the price.

This will be delivered today! So excited.

Hi all, sorry for the wait! I'm back home from vacation and these are some of the pics I took. It shifts from intense pink to light orange to almost champagne. It does tend to "lose" its color in very bright sun and a certain angle and certain lighting, but for the most part, how can I care when it has such a pretty color when it shows? Apologies for the dry hands. I didn't bring lotion with me.

Indoor lighting

Outdoor in car, cloudy day (I think)

The rest are in the car, bright shade or bright sun.

It's prettier irl. These were taken with a Samsung S8. I'm going to take slr pictures at some point.

Wow, that's a lot of pictures! I'm not a fan of half the pics in the car (two posts up), but I agree it's really pretty at its best. It looks good outdoors and in bright indoor lighting. When are you going to set it? And do you have ideas about how?

Those were taken over 3 days and only half of what I took (the others were similar or blurry). Wait til you see the slr pics! While the phone gives accurate color rep the slr should give the prettier pics. As for setting I definitely want to, as this is probably my best overall corundum, but that would cost money I could use for that zircon :confused2: So I guess it will stay in its case for a while (it might be better that way considering I always forget to put on rings/necklaces when I get ready).

I disagree :x2. I speak on behalf on your untreated ruby that that one is your best overall corundum :P2. Wasn't it a mesmerising velvet red?

Am I missing something or doesn't this mostly look like a grey~pink sapphire under most light settings? Don't curse the messenger. You should have shown us only the pretty images.....

I don't know what @Anne111 is seeing on her screen, but I see the "intense pink to light orange to almost champagne" that you see Shijitake, and some peach too!
It looks great with your skin tone, which I think was one of your concerns. How will you set it?

Color perception, I find is very subjective, varying with the individual's neurological biology, not to mention that monitors have different color balance settings/capabilities. There is really no objective "right and wrong" of what is there to be seen or not. For that reason, I try not to criticize a stone for what I see but others do not, because it could be that what I see is different from what they see (certain high saturation blue-green stones look much less attractive to me than to other PS'ers, apparently).

FWIW, I personally see pink in only some shots, no gray in any. A little brown in other pictures, but that's just what happens when peach doesn't get a lot of light. I do mostly see peach/champagne, on both my phone screen and computer monitor. I think Anne is just seeing the stone differently than how I see this stone.

On a more "philosophical" note, I suspect that rubies, sapphires, and emeralds are so valued is because they are primary color stones where everyone sees the same color. The mixed-color stones, would be valued differently by different individuals since not everyone sees them the same.

I suspect that if I were red-green color-blind, I wouldn't value rubies nearly so much as I do...

@voce I love that ruby but it does take some good light for that yummy velvet to come out!

@Anne111 does have a point! I took more unflattering pics of this sapphire than good ones. I guess I was focusing on its "problems." It does a weird thing where its color fades pretty badly in very bright sun and shade in the car (I know that can happen to lots of stones but some can still glow through it), and another weird thing where the center becomes some weird void. Other than that, it really does have good pink or peach color, no gray that I see.

@PieAreSquared No plans to set it yet. Looking to get that zircon from the other thread. If I don't, then I am saving the money for other expenses.

Here's a pic where I got good color. It's been cloudy here and it's hard to get a good picture. It's just as pink under the clouds but less intense. I'll be back with (hopefully) some better pics!

It’s a color shifter. I had a Malaya garnet that was almost identical to this stone in hue and tone. It also went from pink to peach depending on the light source. I recommend a rose gold halo with a white shank.

Yes, color-shifter sounds right, some images are great, others are dull, almost as if it's a different gem.

I appreciate seeing the range of stones personality.
If everyone only posted the super flattering ones, anyone doing their ‘research’ here would be wildly misled that some varieties of colored stones that do not shift color are not common.
I think if the lighting that you’d mostly be in while wearing it, is flattering - that it’d make a lovely ring and is pretty on your skin tone. As for being tolerant of its off times- that just varies to each individual.
