Hello everyone :wavey:

We have put an OEC on hold with JbEG and I wanted to get opinions from the experts here on it:

http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.com/Jewelry/Loose-Diamonds/078ct-Old-European-Cut-Diamond/30678513_JR8CTw#!i=2650245320&k=vRhkTGw 0_15.jpg

I also wanted opinions on settings I'm considering for it:

I actually found a setting at Shane co earlier in my searching that I liked
http://www.shaneco.com/Jewelry-Catalog/Product-Detail.aspx?X=41056017&ST=Engagement-Rings&I=48&S=Price-Retail
and they are willing to modify the head to split prongs (which I like the look of better). When I went there browsing the salesperson was very helpful and friendly. I went back today to look at it again and confirm how it would work with them setting an outside stone, and the salesperson who helped me today was somewhat rude, which lead me to searching out reviews and reading lots of negative things about them (although mostly about the quality of their center stones) and now I'm rethinking it.

I found a few online (Gabriel &Co) and found a local jeweler who carries them that I'm planning to check out soon:

Thanks! :)

It looks very nice. The depth is a little deeper side ( spread a little smaller vs. weight) and it seems to have that nice crown ( just like my oec). Colour will be great, because it is GIA L (mine is EGL L). And facets appeals my eyes.

About setting; Stuller is my favourite because of 6 prongs; it will give a bigger appearance for that size stone. Second is the first Gabriel; gorgeous decoration! That with six prongs; lovely :D .

I spent last afternoon on JbEG' s site and tried to find combo depth enough with higher crown. There wasn't many available. High crown seems to be "must". For ME

Good luck, vintagesparklelover! You're on right way on Your travel!

I think the cut looks promising. I see no red flags and its worth seeing in person!

I also want to applaud JBEG on serious upping their game with their photos :appl: I have notied that many/all of the diamonds and rings they have posted in recent months have included these very nice close up images that clearly show the faceting. I think its great!

Glad to hear you love it. How thin/wide is the band on it? And does it stick up tall or is it lower set? (Its hard to tell some of these things from online pics)

I went to talk to our local jeweler who carries Gabriel settings (didn't have any of the ones I was interested in in store), and he's going to order the stuller setting so I can decide if I like it. Then they'll add engraving to the top of the shank (similar in style to the engraving on the top of this)

with milgraining on the top and bottom of the sides, to give it more of an antique/vintage feel.
If I don't like it, they'll modify/customize one of their own stock settings for me and add in engraving/carving/etc to it, but that will take a lot longer to finish

It sits low. Not a heavy setting but substantial enough for what i wanted. I got the 14X 1 white gold, which is unplated. It is supposed to stay white. I like your engraving idea. Makes it one of a kind.
