Opinions on this JA diamond (.7 F, VS1 AGS 0)

Hi everyone, after 5 years, I'm getting an old JA .49 F SI2 upgraded, and the new stone needs to be at least $2560. Limit is $3000. So after a hard time searching for a good one within my desired basic parameters and budget (.65 or higher, G color or higher, SI1 or higher, and of course GIA 3EX or AGS 0), I found this one and only stone (another one I had my eye on was sold yesterday).

It's .70ct, F, VS1, and has idealscope doing a pricescope search: Pricescope diamond search profile.

JA link is here (on hold for me):
JA .7 F VS1 link

I asked for the AGS report, and here is the computer-generated ASET and proportions. It has a lot of green along the girdle, so I wonder if there is going to much of a visual difference IRL compared to say a stone with "less green" in that area? Any concerns? Specialist said it would be eye clean and not cloudy looking. I'm looking for bright and sparkly :) in most lighting conditions.

Thanks for any input you have!

The crown is a bit painted. Very nicely cut stone. This may slightly affect its personality to the very astute eye but should still be a top performer.

Theoretically it sacrifices some fire in favour of brightness, but the effect is miniscule at this amount.

ASET looks good! A good find indeed! wonder why it is not under the TrueHearts range.

I'm confused as to how some stones get on their TH range actually. The 2 TH stones that fit my search parameters looked so messy (in terms of symmetry) face up. The stone I'm interested in has a report from 11/2019. Perhaps it had been returned for some reason. Oh well I'm planning to review it first before sending in my old one for credit. Here's hoping it's as good as it looks!

The JA diamond is not be TH because it might not fit the JA specifications of TH - the hearts might be wonky...etc, so symmetry is not quite there. (see pic below that was borrowed from Whiteflash - that is even stricter than JA). Numbers are not everything - even though yours look good on the paper, it is likely the symmetry is not as precise on that stone.

As far as the date, someone might have upgraded it, not necessarily returned it because there was something wrong with the stone. Screen Shot 2021-01-03 at 10.05.00 AM.png

Yeah, that's my guess...that the hearts are off somehow. But as long as it looks close enough to "super ideal" and looks great with naked eye. The TH are priced at a high premium, comparable to ACA's!

@La2020 Hi, thanks for following up! I wish that I've received it, but haven't yet. Good news is that the status changed to "Quality Assurance" just today! I'm pairing it with this setting -

https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...l-surprise-diamond-engagement-ring-item-63032

However, I actually had my other ring upgraded through Whiteflash recently too - from .605ct I Si1 ES to .653ct F VVS2 ACA. The "I" ES color was too yellow to me, and it didn't sparkle as much as I'd hoped. And though it took about a month from sending the old ring in, all the way to delivery, I finally received it this week. My first ACA, and it's gorgeous. My pictures don't do it justice so I'll insert their photographer's glamour shot (the setting is a discontinued one from JA). I am really glad that WF's upgrade policy is not 2x like JA's. I don't want anything larger than .7-.8ct so don't think I'll be grading with JA anymore in the future. I didn't ask for PS help with the WF upgrade b/c, well, ACA, and I trust WF's onsite experts. But didn't want to take a chance with the JA upgrade without some 2nd opinions.

Why two rings? Somehow ended up with two of them due to wanting something bigger, and now realized that having two is great - when one is being cleaned or getting its "tuneup," I can wear the other one. Also wanted to try that really pretty looking setting from JA that I linked, so I'd have a choice of wearing something different on my finger, depending on what I feel like that day. I hope the new JA stone w/setting is a winner though! I'll surely update you all when I do get it.

Being F’s with much improved clarity, both rings should be amazing! Looking forward to seeing them both when you get them.

Oh, that is really a pretty JA ring setting you have there! Yes, please show us your JA diamond ring when it has finally arrived.. I am sure it is worth the wait.

Your WF purchase is dazzling! Definately worth the upgrade in terms of clarity and color. Since both is an F, could you do a side by side comparison when the ring arrives? I been contemplating to get an ACA but wonder if its worth getting another MRB.

I regretted not going for WF in the first place.. Since their upgrade policy is so much friendlier. But I like the unusual finds in JA.. Some stones they carry are very unique.

I get what you mean by having more than 1 rings.. I usually swap rings depending on my mood and what activities I will be carrying out. They are all of different settings diamond cut styles.=)2

Aw, sometime this morning JA order status went backward from "QA" to "Production" again. Don't know what to think about that...:???:

I would call and ask. If it didnt pass QA it may take a while to have it redone or maybe it has a prong that needs a little work. Hard to say
without calling to find out. I know it can be frustrating!

Oh dear...I know it is frustrating for you after waiting for so long. However, at least the QA personnel is doing his or her job.

The QA personnel in charge of my Emerald diamond ring somehow gave it a pass, and I ended up with a crooked head and wonky prongs. https://www.pricescope.com/communit...t-what-i-expected-what-are-your-views.262473/

Took 2 months of wait and the refund wasn't done fully. Until today, I am still finding out why. :(2

Hence, I would rather wait longer for JA to do its job properly, than ending up having to fix their mistake.

Yes that's what the rational part of my mind thinks, and yet another part just wishes they did it right the first time :)

@La2020 After 3 weeks, the JA upgrade ring has arrived, and I'm going to keep it! I didn't see anything amiss with the workmanship, thank goodness, and it sparkles like crazy, with no hint of cloudiness. Pretty elegant setting.

Compared to the .65 ACA outdoors in direct sunlight, it looks like the JA .70 goes darker, though it could be position of the rings/sunlight angle and that the JA stone is cleaner than the ACA (i cleaned the ACA one yesterday). But bright and white is good to me!

Comparison pics. .65 F ACA is w/pave band. .70 F JA ring sits a little higher due to setting. Ring Size 4.

ACA taken inside the home a week ago.

The rest are comparison pics in various outdoor lighting today (clear skies, so just shaded v. not shaded).

Beautiful! And the setting is awesome! Do you see any unevenness of the prongs? Did you notice any difference in them (i.e. more fiery or more brilliant) if you do a side by side comparison?

My friend's JA prongs are a bit wronky and she is still trying to find a fix for them. :(
