I think you did right not getting that one-there''s a reason that a 6ct stone is only $16000! Best of luck picking your diamond!

Hate it. Sorry but everyone who looks at it will say "Wow- that sure is huge" and then they will say "I can see some reall,y large flaws in it". Not what I expect for over $16,000. But if you are rich and you love it then buy what you like.

Phil, I think the problem is not so much the return policy as that it''s an obviously unattractive stone, and a real shame to spend that much money on something like that. Lots of people in the thread have recommended reputable vendors. Maybe if you want to post a budget and some idea of shape, someone could point you to a better choice? Otherwise, perhaps take my suggestion, if you''re looking for a very large carat stone, and find a reputable dealer who can source it for you.

If you trust them and you are solid on what you want, you’re ready for the next step. Have them send you a stone and look at it. If you like it, proceed directly to an appraiser who is working for YOU and can both doublecheck the critical assumptions like clarity and color and who can provide whatever additional information might be missing, like cutting and durability concerns. Based on the results of that inspection either:
a) buy it
b) return it and have them send you another one
c) return it and take your business elsewhere

If you don’t trust them, proceed directly to the door and keep on looking for a dealer.

Once again, 7 days is a pretty tight window, especially if there’s not a qualified and independent appraiser who is close to home. Kicking this up to more like 10 days will make your life a lot easier. Choose your appraiser and set your appointment before you even place the order. Make sure the new return policy is in writing and is 100% refund for any reason. No strings, no restocking fee, no handling fee, no matter how they ‘feel’ about it. A shipping charge is reasonable but make them tell you up front how much it will be. By all means tell them that this is the plan but don't tell them who the appraiser is going to be or allow them any vote at all in your selection. Pay ONLY with a credit card and use a card that has a buyer protection program (most do), not a bank wire and not a debit card.
