Hi guys,

I am from the UK and have been searching for an ering for what seems like months (well actually, it has been more like a year!). With the help of PS I have gained enough elementary knowledge to actually make the search not seem so daunting!

However, I am still so indecisive when it comes to final selections. The biggest problem I am having is buying ''unseen''. I have looked at loads of badly cut B&M stones and had vendors tell me its all about the colour and clarity etc etc (parts of Hatton Gardens is no better than H M Samuels or Ernest Jones!). I have even been over to NYC this Xmas to view diamonds - I had planned on buying online whilst in the US but I hadn''t factored NY state local tax on top of the VAT & import duties and didn''t have the time to arrange an out of state delivery. The idea of evading ALL of these taxes did appeal to a small part of me but my conscience got the better of me!)

Any opinions or suggestions on the diamond below? I want to order from James Allen as they have the setting I want and also ship to the UK. I know this limits my choice somewhat but I don''t want the extra responsibility of having to find a decent jeweller in the UK who will set my stone.

My budget (for the stone only) is $2650 and I want the closest thing to 0.75ct that I can get in an AGS Ideal 0, H&A, D-I, eye clean stone. I believe the stone below is very well cut but it just falls outside the AGS Ideal on the HCA (but is within the GIA). I am looking for the finest cut I can get for my money and will sacrifice both colour and clarity to an I or SI2(eye clean only) to fufill my search.

Hi c&p,

That stone actually looks like a terrific contender. Is there an Idealscope picure that goes with it?

Hi Ellen,

Yes the idealscope looks pretty good http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-997671.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131

I think JA has very good info for ''unseen'' purchases but I''m just struggling to commit (thats men for you!), and would value any suggestions.

Thanks,

Matt
