Is this a good choice on paper? its a 1.73CT. D color, VS-1 Ideal Cut. Also could someone tell this extreme newbie what these numbers are. I know 54% is the table, and 61.5 is depth, but not sure what the other numbers are called, and what percentages I need to be look at for the best cut.

it's close... this is a good "cheat sheet" for CA / PA relationships... (ideally you would have 40.8 PA)..... Also it's a CVD process...I think @DejaWiz could probably find you a tighter proportioned one in HPHT method...

thanks Freddie. My jeweler told me that this is a heart and arrows diamond but he’s also told me during this whole process that if I find another diamond, he can probably source that diamond at a cheaper rate so if it was so if someone finds a better diamond I can run by them and see whatyou can come up with

Hi, diverg!
I'd be happy to find some alternative diamonds with the H&A designation that you can present to your jeweler - got a carat range and budget cap in mind so that I can adjust the search parameters properly?

Thanks. 1.7 to 2cts. Up to 1k as my jeweler can probably source the same exact diamond for $100 to 300 and those I were able to verify against other online sources selling the same diamond.

Forgot to mention, even though my budget is up to 1000 obviously if I can get a great diamond much cheaper, I’m all for that :-)

I may have found the perfect fire-breathing dragon for ya...it's just a tiny tick over exactly 2 carats and just under $1100, if that would work?
Let me know if you'd like me to pot the link so that you can write it down/bookmark it, I'll delete it, then you can work with your jeweler.

I’m definitely interested in taking a look at it. It’s a little bit over my budget, but with my jeweler get pricing he might get it to a better price. I am on the road right now, so do not post the link yet. I’ll be home late afternoon early evening And I’ll ask you to post the link at that point in time. Not to mention my jeweler is in Bangkok so there’s no rush in the information..

Also, if you can find a few other options in a little cheaper, I just like to have options to compare if it’s not too much trouble for you. thanks in advance. We can increase the search range starting at around 1.5 CT

Definitely can find more options for ya!
Safe travels.

I do have one question for the group. Why is the HPHT method preferred over the CBD method in in this forum?

Here's the 2.08

Here's a GIA graded option:

And here are also some other great looking options that I found:

These seem to be great values for the specs!

Out of these which in your opinion gives the best bang for the buck?

Here is an example of a 2ct my jeweler in Bangkok sent me. What is your opinion of this diamond at the listed price? And his price is way, way better.

For the about the same price, there are superior HPHT diamonds to pick from, in my opinion. :)

Thanks for your help. Is a Hearts and Arrow designation needed to get a very good sparkly diamond? Anything else I need to know about getting that sparkly diamond?

Avoid the CVD method - even minor strain can reduce / diffuse the light. In your size range there is little price difference HPHT/CVD so might as ell go with the better method. Most ideal range are also H&A but it might not be noted on the report ( A report with H&A designation has a slight premium over standard grading report) You'll likely see more sparkly / fire effect from steeper CA ie 35%

They're all fantastic options, so whichever one that you feel grabs your eyes and represents best value for what you're wanting to spend is your winner :)

HPHT produces better rough - Color and Transparency more close to Natural (since both are High pressure + High Temp) CVD commonly have growth strain and need a clarity + color tune up in HPHT afterwards.....

Thank you for jumping in and helping out by bringing in this great info, freddyboston!

Arg, I'm stressing on this. I think I want a diamond ring for my GF more than she does. Cultural differences. She is Thai, and lives in Thailand. To Thais, they buy and wear 23K gold jewelry, but it is more than something to wear. It is a commodity to them. It is treated as their safety net. Something that can be pawned off in hard times. Also only 23K gold is able to be used this way. All other gold kt is basically worthless as far as being used as a commoditiy.

I think we have settled on a compromise. I can get her an engagement ring (upto me), and then get her a 23kt wedding band when I'm back in Thailand. I'll stick with a 14kt plain band because of my job.

So my plan of action is to try to step away for a little bit (probably impossible for meta do) Then look at getting her a solitaire, and maybe still get her a halo.

Time to keep researching and learning more about diamonds.

well...i'd probably stay away from using lower Kt gold for a thai bride ... and any gemstone even if set in soft 23k would throw off the weight so you'd likely be wasting your $ money....

I'll giver her a budget for her wedding band, and let her get what she wants. The engagement ring will be in 18kt. Not really sure how it'll all play out. Maybe I'll get a wedding band for myself with a diamond it it. Hehehe. Except because of my work a plain band would be better.

for yourself you could hide a small gem stone on the inside :)

Maybe 4 tiny gemstones if it isn't cost prohibitive. One representing me, her, our child and her teenage child. One new family.

@ Thailand I'm sure they can make anything for not too much ... small gems are inexpensive....

I forgot about the jeweler in Bangkok. He told me less the $10 per gemstone. So that will not be an inhibiting factor of birthstone representing each family member.
