Hi, I don't know much about diamonds. I'm considering buying one of the following two diamonds in a tiffany-like setting

1. https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3893609.htm ($7,686)
2. https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3929337.htm ($8,392)

Any thoughts on whether the diamonds are:

A. Good quality? My girlfriend has a sister that recently got engaged and got a 2.5 carat ring. I can't compete on size given my budget, so I'm hoping to get one that, next to her sister's, stands out in brilliance and sparkle (I think this reflects my gf as well - she isn't the biggest personality, but she still shines / catches your eyes in a crowded room)

B. Is the price in the right ballpark? Am I getting ripped off / a good deal / or are these fair market prices?

C. Would it look good in a Vatch U-113 setting? Going for tiffany-inspired, also debating the Excel, but I can't really tell the difference.

D. Any thoughts on whether #2 is worth the $800 premium over #1?

Merry Christmas and thanks so much for your help and opinions!

Both stones are gorgeous....the second warrants the extra cost bc of the VS1 clarity. You are not getting ripped off at all but you are paying additional for the super ideal cut. Personally, if her sister just got engaged with a 2.5ct, I'd want to maximize my budget for a slightly larger size but still beautiful cut. This stone gets you 1.33ct/7mm for approx. same price, nice balance of specs and still an AGS 000 with a great ASET in the report:

There are several other options as well, but I like what the one above has to offer. Just my 2 cents!

The Vatche u113 is a timeless classic setting that is extremely similar to the real Tiffany setting so I think that's a perfect choice!

I also like this one from WF that's bigger....an I should still be very white in a super ideal stone at this size and it's marked as eye clean: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3872128.htm

Those will both be beautiful diamonds. I personally wouldn't pay more for VS1 over VS2, because both will be eye-clean. Between the two, I would pick #1. Are you the one who reserved it? Yes, the U-113 is a lovely choice.

Another alternative to the U-113 is to go with WF's knife-edge with some custom changes:

- smooth out knife edge
- make prongs claw-like
- set it at medium height
- I'd also like a 90/10 iridium mix

This is the ring I got for my fiancée and it turned out super nice. They can get it done faster than Vatche too which currently has a 4-5 week working period.

Thanks all for your thoughts

-Missed the VS2 / VS1, that makes sense, thanks. Been looking at so many rings that it all starts to blend together!
-AC117, appreciate your advice on trading cut for size to the 1.3ct. As I said, I'm not familiar with diamonds, so I guess I wonder if there is a noticeable difference between an excellent cut and ACA? Would be great to get others' opinions on this as well
-Krisking, yes I am the one who reserved #1
-Lore, thanks so much for the modifications and advice to try the knife-edge. FWIW, to my untrained eye that is a good looking ring. Is that design comfortable? Worried a little bit that the sharper edges might "dig in" to the finger (i have never worn a ring before so maybe this is really silly question as I imagine they wouldn't make it if it were not comfortable). WF's ring settings - the pictures on the website have prongs that seem more "straight" rather than the tiffany setting and the vatch, which seem more "smooth". However, your pictures seem to show that in reality they are actually quite "smooth". So I'm a little confused on what to think now

Either of those stones would be gorgeous! Or if you want to gain some size the one ac117 posted

Do you know what color her sisters is (the 2.5)? Is it GIA/AGS? You probably dont have the answers to these questions.

Anyway, I* would probably go with the bigger I (*if it were for me). The 1.22 will show up larger than a 1 carat and would be worth it to me.
Here is a relative size difference between one of the ones you picked and the 1.22 on a size 6 finger
