Hello!

I''ve been around for a couple of months now researching and have decided it might be time to move on a diamond (thanks for the heads up on the upward moving price trend Karl K). I''m being quite picky in looking for a G SI1 that is 100% eye clean from the top and one I can possibly even cover any inclusions visible from the side with a prong. I have attached the GIA report of a diamond I have on hold that I am set to purchase tomorrow for $13,150. It does face up fairly large for a diamond of 1.78ct at 7.80 x 7.82, which is also important to me. I''ve been considering going with a 2ct diamond but my custom setting and wedding band will be $7,000 so I am already beyond the limits of my budget and with the price increases coming I just don''t feel like waiting any longer. This is why its important to me that the smaller diamond face up somewhat large for its size.

How does this diamond look to you? It is in house and I was told it was a very pretty diamond that faces up totally white and is closer to the VS2 classification in clarity.

If any of you wanted to run a search for diamonds that are larger I would appreciate this a LOT. My budget is realistically about $15,500.00 for the diamond. I like to think that with all of the reading I''ve done over the past two months (literally at least an hour a day) that I am qualified to make an educated decision without running it by the PS members, but you guys are awesome and I can''t realistically compare to many of you here, let alone the combined knowledge available :).

Thanks for reading and any suggestions you have!

Matt

Looks promising from the numbers.

Just wondering if anyone else has any opinions.

I''ll probably purchase this tomorrow if not.

just going by the #''s it looks like a nice well cut stone.

This diamond has great potential and could be a definite option.

Well...

I bit the bullet and went bigger. Stepped up to a 2.14ct

Bigger is better, right? ;)\

Ashley at Solomon Brothers said this diamond doesn't show inclusions from any distance at any angle to her young eyes (and she said she has excellent vision) and is in the top few percent of diamonds she's seen for brilliance. I asked if the clouds affected the brilliance and she replied very quickly and firmly "NOT AT ALL"

I picked it up for $15,713... an absolute SMOKING deal IMO.

Scores a 1.4 on the HCA.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!

It has excellent numbers, maybe you could get an independant appraiser to check those clouds out to make absolutely sure.

There''s a NAJA appraiser literally just a few blocks away and I''m planning on taking it straight to her. She''s AJP and GG, but she''s at a jewelry store. Do you recommend against taking this diamond to her for appraisal?

It is possible that as this appraiser sells jewellery that she isn''t as impartial as one might hope, personally I think it would be preferable if you could find a truly independant appraiser that doesn''t sell jewellery if you can.

Thanks for the advice, Lorelei!

The next nearest independent appraiser is 3 hours away and I''ve already blown my budget for what it would cost me to ship it, have it appraised, and return shipped. I think I''ll visit the local appraiser and feel them out on their tactics before I decide whether or not to hand over the stone.

Numbers on the bigger are very nice, too!

Ditto on the appraisal. There's nothing that says clouds have to be big problems in SI2s, but an independent opinion never hurts.

Better Photos tonight, but this is all I''m capable of while still at the office.
