Opinions on this diamond...and vendor (Fourmine)

Hi fellow PS friends!

My friend's boyfriend will propose soon. He found this online, asking my opinion. I thought I would run this by you all....i am unfamiliar with this vendor. This stone looks not bad, price is decent...what do u think? Will the faint fluo help counter a warmer J color? Any red flags you see? How picky should he be with this one? He is searching for 1.5-2ct under $6500....

Per GIA report...Clarity grade is based on clouds that are not shown.

Thats usually not a good thing.

Edit...I tried to see if any other vendors had it to see if they had some different pictures but could not
find it. Your friend would need to talk to the vendor and ask about the clouds.

Crown angle is a bit steep and the depth is a bit steep too. Cavity is not a great inclusion. I'd pass.
 
It might be possible to hide the cavity with a prong, but I’d worry that the cavity might negatively affect the structural integrity of the stone. I’d keep looking.
 
I concur with others that I'd pass on that stone.

Florescence is, at best, a cool party trick that is visible in strong UV...like night clubs and the like. In areas closer to the equator, you may have more ambient UV outside, but that is paired with stronger light which tend to make any diamond look flat.

Color acuity is pretty variable, but I have found that most can detect color form the side in an I. From the top...its a mixed bag based on light return and cut. There are some K here that face-up white. So, it is possible, but you'll need a very trusted vendor to help make that call.

We have had a few look at Fourmine, and at least one poster bought from them. But, if I recall, they don't have a gemologist in house and they don't provide IS or ASET images to evaluate light return. So, that means you want to stay in very safe proportions.

If he wants I color and above, his budget will be closer to a 1 carat stone. So, it will be about balancing of size vs. color, as cut and eye-clean are given's to me. Assuming J color work, here are some options. He should hold his top three and ask for IS images, if not posted.

The CA is a bit higher than our ideal range, but the PA pairing may work. This has a clear yellow body color with great chubby arrows; 7.01 mm}

This is what I consider to be a good SI2 with no clouds to worry about. Great angles and nice H color; confirm with JA about eyeclean, but this is a great higher color option; 6.95 mm}

Most visible inclusion is on the side, but may be harder to see when set. I think this stone has a brown body color, not yellow. I prefer that, but not everyone does. 6.70 mm}

If size is the priority, I'd choose the #1 if they can provide an IS. If color is more a priority and it is eyeclean, I'd choose #2.}. JA generally only provides 3 IS images/email from which the request comes.

What's most important to you? Colour? Clarity? Carat? Do you want the biggest stone money can buy that looks fairly white and generally clean to the naked eye?

Hi Fiona,

It might be a looker, without detailed images it looks from the photo that the cut precision is ok and the proportions might actually work together, allowing for the fact the numbers are rounded. Faint fluorescence won't really make much if any difference, you'll probably never notice it.

My main concern with everyone else is the fact the clarity is based on clouds which are not shown, you'd want to make sure they weren't negatively impacting brilliance and the cavity too * might* be a durability issue in this clarity grade so worth checking.

So it has potential but I'd keep looking and file this one under ' maybe if nothing else comes up, worth further investigation.'
 
I have to agree with @tyty333. Clarity of SI2 based on clouds not shown would be a hard no for me. Others may disagree.
 
Its IGI graded stone, so assume the color is more like a GIA K or L. CLarity is likely at least 2 grades lower, so its more like a VS. Can you post the crown and pavilion angles, they require I fill out a request.

Did you look at the options I posted? They are all either GIA or AGS graded and well within your specs.

To save from sales tax, my friend wants to stick with diamonds direct or brilliance.com....that's what he mentioned....i did send him your suggestions though as well as the entire thread :)
