Hi! Hoping some of the experts can chime in with their thoughts on this ASET?

ASET for 3.52 Emerald Cut.jpg

To uneven side to side and to much leakage on ends and windmills.
If both sides looked like the left side between the windmills the long way it would be much better.
At first I thought it was tilted but it is doesn't look tilted enough to cause the problem, it is most likely a cutting issue.

This isn’t bad but not perfect. The right side has too much white, not enough red, therefore light leakage. Have you seen the stone in person? ASET images are very hard with ECs as they can be beautiful in person.

Not a lot of black which I like

I’m Team @Karl_K...way too much leakage, and inconsistent across the stone....
This EC will be dark & lack fire & performance....

Okay got it! Thanks very much for weighing in @Karl_K @Emeraldsaremyfavorite @Matthews1127 - really appreciate the input.

I have not seen it in person but I think I should keep looking (and I'm jumping the gun a little bit because I really should sell my other EC first, ha). It sucks that ASETs are so hard to come by! Makes the EC search so much harder.

Agree!! Be patient!! You’ll get there!!! ;)2

Are you going to sell the EC you just purchased from Jon? Curious... if so what do you not like about it and what are you looking for this time around?

Hey! Yes trying to sell it even though I'll be taking a loss, sigh - I was super excited about hitting the 4 ct mark, but I'd never actually tried on anything that big before, and I definitely should have given myself more time to try on different sizes and colors before pulling the trigger. I still think that stone is stunning and a crazy price for 4cts, but I've realized that for an EC I'd prefer to stick to the colorless range (ideally F color) and I'll be more comfortable with something around the 3ct mark. I keep learning all my lessons the very hard and expensive way, ha!

So when the 4ct EC sells, I think I should push the limits of one of those websites with free shipping and returns and have some kind of revolving door of ECs to try out one at a time, lol.

I understand. BUT... really think about selling your current stone! I have looked at so many ECs and yours seems like a true find. I love an H in an EC and an SI1 is just a find if it is eye clean! I would try to find a store with a 3ct so you can really get a feel. I say this because ECs appear smaller than rounds and you really might get use to the 4ct and even experience some shrinkage after a while. I have a 3.56 ct, 10.45 x 8.04 so measures like a 4 ct. I have never once thought it was too big and I have a size 4 finger!

With all that said, it is definitely up to you. And I understand not being happy with a stone. So follow your heart but just wanted to give you a different perspective.

Also, I think you will get very close to what you payed for your stone if you are patient!

I’m a “no diamond is EVER too big” gal. I dream of a 3ct+ EC. Believe me. I’m a size 5.5, and every mm of that lusciousness would be appreciated....lol!! :lol-2:

Oh man, this is good advice and a very helpful perspective - esp because your finger is so tiny!! Pre-baby I was a 5.75 but right now I'm more like a 6.5, ugh. It really sucks that ECs face up so small. So do you think an EC can have a just average ASET but in real life be a very good performer?? Or if the ASET is just average there is a limit to how good the performance is, even if the stone might be pretty in real life?

And I was getting really antsy about selling it, but I think you are right that I should try not to rush it and lose more money just for a quick sale. But I also feel like consignment sales can be such a crapshoot and take forever, even if it is a great stone at a really great price. I am definitely not going to get myself into this situation again.

Anyway - thanks very much for weighing in! And I just saw that your new CADs are in -- really cannot wait to see the finished product and really hope you love it!!

Lol -- and ahh you guys are making me second guess myself again -- I wish my finger was a 5.5! But yeah you all are right, I need to figure out a way to actually see some 3ct ECs in person, and the oval I had before was super spready, so I definitely go spoiled on finger coverage. There isn't anything around where I live though, so I would have to make a trip somewhere...

So.,, this is how I look at ASETS. Most people in the world have no clue what they are and buy diamonds every day based off whether they think they’re beautiful. I think in a sence it is good if you’re trying to gather all of your information and make sure you got that “ideal” stone and want peace of mind. I saw several ASETS before I bought my current emerald cut but never saw one for the one I actually bought. And I’m happy I didn’t because I thought it was truly beautiful and I didn’t want an ASET to tell me different.

So, with that said, what you showed was not a total train wreck, not perfect but to me I would have to see the stone in person. But I’m not sure- I think you are talking about a new stone? Like I said before really think about that four carat you want to sell. I can guarantee you it will not look obnoxious on your finger size because emerald cuts rarely do! And to me and H is pretty darn colorless and an SI1 is fabulous if eye clean. So I don’t think you will be unhappy with the size, color or anything. If you like the ratio, that’s really important to me, then I would really really think hard.

I have a feeling to find an F color in the 3 carat range you were going to have a much smaller look and pay more than 35K.

And, you had the good fortune of Jon finding this for you, and his eye is worth a lot! Good luck!

Yeah - all really good points. Thanks again for sharing your insight and buying experience - very helpful and definitely makes sense to me. Will keep thinking about it.
