Hi all,

First, thank you for this forum and everyones' contributions. This has been an amazing resource for me as I try to put together an engagement ring for my girlfriend. After spending the past 3 weeks reading posts and articles, I ordered a diamond from BN (sorry no ASET images) which is arriving tomorrow. I think I found a good value, but it's low price makes me think I might be missing something obvious. Here are the specs:

Round Brilliant 1.53ct J VS1
7.48 x 7.51 x 4.50
GIA Ex-Ex-Ex
Flor: Strong Blue
Table: 59%
Depth: 60.1% (13.5% crown / 43.5% pavilion)
Crown Angle: 33.0
Pavilion Angle: 41.0
Girdle: Medium (3.5%) faceted
Culet: None
HCA: 1.1 (All EX)
Price: $8,359

I know the fluorescence brings the price down, and I believe it's coming from overseas which I heard also brings the price down, but it still seems priced low. Is it because this falls more into the category of a 60/60 diamond which today is less favored compared to diamonds with smaller tables? I think my girlfriend would prefer a 60/60 cut as she loves vintage solitaire rings. The setting will be a solitaire 6-prong (rounded) 14k rose gold (including prongs).

In another thread on 60/60 diamonds, someone linked to these charts which seems to classify the diamond's angles as AGS Ideal: http://www.octonus.com/oct/mss/gia-agspgs.phtml Should I get a warm fuzzy from these tables?

Long story short, I know opinions are limited without pictures or ASET images, but I wanted to see if there was something glaringly wrong with this diamond. I'll post pictures tomorrow morning after it arrives. Thanks again.

The low price is the 60/60 combined with the Fluorescence. That brings a stone's price down significantly. Could be a nice stone. Where are you located maybe we can get you to an appraiser with an idealscope for you.

Did you read this: www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/60-60-proportioned-diamond

Thanks for the response Gypsy. I live in Denver and wouldn't mind a suggestion for an appraiser.

Ha, you're in luck. Call Neil Beatty. Maybe you could even set up an appointment while he views your stone. You are so lucky! I'd kill for that, lol. He can do all the ASET and IS and photos you want.

So here are some pictures I took in outside shade and direct light. To my untrained and unexperienced eye it looks amazing. And a lot bigger than I expected. I think the third photo is showing the strong blue fluor which I think will go well with a rose gold setting. I gave Neil a call but no answer - I should have set something up with him earlier because I plan to send this out tomorrow to be set for a proposal next weekend.

For anyone interested in how this near 60/60 looks mounted, here are the glamour shots from Brian Gavin (Tiffany Inspired 6-prong, all 14k rose gold).

Very pretty! Did Brian Gavin proffer any opinion on the stone? Looks pretty and white!
