I got this 3.55 carat, J color, VVS2 lab diamond today from Ritani. I picked it up at a nearby jewelry store as a preview before buying. It looked wonderful in the store. However, we went to Olive Garden afterward to eat, and I took it out to look at it, and it was so dark. I know diamonds can go dark in direct sunlight, but I wasn't prepared for how dark this one got. Is this normal? Or did I get a dud? It looks so different in each of the pictures.1647124140336.png

I checked the grading report and found that it is cut and proportioned near a 60/60 style cut, which is typically going to be geared towards more brilliance while sacrificing some fire due to the shallower overall depth and shallower crown angle.
Your diamond appears to have gobs of brilliant white light return, which falls right into what to expect from a 60/60 type of a cut.
Diamonds do tend to go dark in direct sunlight...here's a very informative article about it at Garry H (Cut Nut)'s business website:

Thank you! It's just crazy to me how dark it actually goes, but I'm getting used to it, and for the price, I think I'm going to keep it.
