hello
So Grace of JbG has this 2.89c asscher. Given step cuts are a little frightening to me I would love anyone who has an eye for such things to give me some feedback.

The i colour worries me a little in a step cut but I've asked Grace about this.
I'm more interested in knowing more about its specs on the GIA cert etc...

Thank you !

I am no step cut expert, so I go with what my eye sees. I really like that stone, especially it's cute little cutlet....as for the I color, could you possibly go to a local store and look at some GIA I step cut stones? I think that every step cut is going to reflect color a bit differently based on the steps, etc. but at least it might give you and idea of your color tolerance in a step cut??

I'm not feeling it. Maybe get a better longer video from her where she moves it all around? That bow tie/Maltese cross seems prominent.

I have an antique step cut in an I and it's pretty white to me.

I think this stone is beautiful just from the photos and video. I would recommend you see it in person.

I also think it is beautiful and I would never hesitate to buy I color in any antique stone. My antique asscher is K color, and if you had ever told me I'd accept that, I would have not believed it! But the way it is set, it does not show the color! Of course, you need to see it in person to check how it reflects light, etc.

I will tell you a small disadvantage. My stone is 2.73 cts and 8.41 x 7.75 mm, and this one is 8.25 x 7.58. So even with higher weight, it faces up smaller than mine. That may not be a big issue if you are setting it in a halo.

In the video it looks like it but the camera is way to close to the diamond.
There are signs it wont be an issue at a longer distance.
A video from a greater distance and or talking to the dealer would help solve that.

I color is personal preference in step cuts or any diamond really.
I like them but others might not.
It all depends on lighting and color perception or more correctly what level of color bugs you.
It is also a case by case basis,
1: colors are a range and the I range is huge.
2: cut determines what percentage of the time the body color is visible.
3: cut matters, a poorly cut stone can intensify the visible color.
4: everyone's eyesight and color likes are different.

Very nice stone although it is very deep as diamondseeker2006 mentioned, at 69.8%. How would you set it? What band(s) would you wear it with? You might want to consider how the end product will look as compared to the colors of your other jewelry and if the mounting will enhance or minimize the color.
