Opinions On These Two Rings

Everyone has an opinion, right? Well now's your time to express it! :cheeky:

I was originally looking at a knife edge tiffany style solitaire ring. Still love that classic look but am now leaning towards something with a little more style/personalization. Looking for opinions between these two Ritani rings:

Ring #1:

More views of Ring #1:

Ring #2:

(Unfortunately, I couldn't find any on finger pics of ring #2.) I would be pairing either one with an aprox 1 ct round diamond. I really like both rings but am not married to either one (pun intended) so am open to other suggestions in this price range or cheaper.

Thank you!

Gosh, I'm not a big fan of bypass rings for engagement rings but I don't know if I like the
way number 1 looks on the finger. I like the design but if you look at the real whiteflash
picture on the finger it looks like the prongs stick up way high over the stone. I wonder
if you can ask the jeweler to make the prongs flatter.

Your 2nd option is more pleasing to my eye.

I"m not really a huge fan of either as I'm not a modern setting kinda of girl but if I had to pick between them I would go with #1.

I like the 2nd option, looks more appealing to me.

+1

Not much love for my choices, but I appreciate the honest opinions! If anyone else cares to chime in, please do!

I am leaning towards #1. To me it has sort of a classic/vintage look but is unique without being gaudy and still puts the center diamond on center stage. I want my future fiance to have something not everyone else has, but, of course, I want her to love it too.

I like the way #2 looks off the finger, but I'm not sure on finger the subtle twist will be very distinctive. Hmmm ... think I need to see them in person.

I don't care for either one but if I had to choose, #2

I like no. 1 more. It is visually interesting, yet solid.

I don't really care for the assymetry of #2 (one twist being diamond pave and the other not).

As to #1, all the WF pics of #1 show the prongs looking (to me) more like straight sticks, which I do not care for at all. However, if the prongs were actually curved a bit around the center diamond like shown in all the images on the Ritani website, then #1 would definitely be my 1st choice.

One thing about both of these ER settings is that wedding bands may be tricky to pair with them.

Since your initial thought was a classic knife-edge Tiffany-style solitaire setting, and now you are looking at more involved designs - do you have a fix on what your GF would prefer? You can always go with the classic solitaire for the ER, and then for your 1st year anniversary, etc. buy some unique anniversary/eternity bands that go with her wedding set...

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback!

(1) Pretty sure the the non-diamond pave twists on #2 don't bother me. Since the left & right sides are the same it looks symmetric to me. Really would like to see this in person. I've seen some other pics of the ring on the internet where you can barely see the twist and the twist is my favorite thing about it.

(2) Not sure I see what you're talking about re curved vs. straight prongs on #1. I think it just looks different from different angles, but I suppose it could be slightly different versions of the same ring. To me the outside prongs look more curved and the prongs parallel to the ring less curved. I like curves!

(3) I thought about the difficulty of matching wedding bands. Ritani has a couple they suggest. I like the first one the best but the second is probably a better match ... not so sure they have to look the same or even be the same style though so long as they compliment one another.

(4) My gf said she wants to be surprised so I'm a little in the dark on what she wants other than she said, like me, she prefers a round stone and nothing too gaudy. I picked out some silver Tiffany Wave earrings for her last Christmas and she loved them. I think (hope) our tastes are pretty similar. Ritani has a 30 day return policy so I may just order the one I think is best and if she wants a simple knife-edged setting even better ... we can return it and I'll save some money! :)

(5) Thanks for your suggestion on anniversary bands, but after buying an e-ring and wedding ring I hope to be out of the diamond ring buying business for a few years!

The PS group-think is strong. I do not really like either, for the reasons stated above by others.

I would much prefer a Vatche Royal Crown, Royal X-Prong, or Swan setting, or one of Mark Morrell's settings if you are looking for a twist on a classic six-prong Tiffany.

Number 1 is my fave too! I think you are the only person, other than me, who actually likes this ring rather than it just being the lesser of two evils ... you must have excellent taste! :wink2:

I really like the way it looks on the finger pic from the WF website. Seems to have a vintage look but with a modern flair that accentuates the center stone rather than detracts from it. Seems like a lot of rings I have seen are either:

(1) Too plain with nothing noteworthy other than they are a mount for the diamond. Nothing wrong with that. I understand the center stone is the main show, but there won't be anything particularly unique about my diamond. It will be a nice 1 ct round diamond ... just like 75% of all the e-rings ... beautiful but common. :snore:

or

(2) Too much going on that either makes the ring look gaudy or diverts too much attention from the center stone. For instance, I strongly dislike most, if not all, of the halo rings. They look like just a big blob of shiny to me. :twirl:

Thanks for all the feedback ... hope to hear more! BTW, since PriceScope seems to primarily focus on the stone is there another good forum for the ring/setting?

I love ring 1! It looks elegant and dainty, like something the elves on lord of the rings would wear, and I mean that in a very complimentary way.

Thanks for the feedback! The prongs do look higher than the ring from a certain angles, but from a side view they appear flush with the very top of the diamond. Not sure if it would look better if a portion of the diamond set above the prongs.

Thank you for the alternative suggestions ... I will definitely check those out! Other than like/dislike feedback, alternative rings are super helpful ... I'm new at this! :twirl:

I kind of like this ring too ... simple yet distinctive:

Thank you! Now there are three of us! :wavey:

P.S. I'm not going to tell my gf about the elf comment though.

If I had to choose I would say number one. But something with a similar flow and more delicate prongs would be a great improvement.

Edit to add: also not a fan of asymmetry and I agree that I think halos are costumey. (I think we are in the minority around these parts haha)

I think I really like #2 of your original choice! It has a nice flow to it and I like the detail on the head where it attaches to the shank. I find it pleasing. The one lone vote in favour of #2! lol!

I like #2 the best as well. On the Ritani site, it shows a band sitting pretty flush with it, which is a plus when you're going the surprise route.

Of those two I far prefer 2. It's like just a plain diamond solitaire but with the slightest twist. It seems like the safer bet if its a surprise. Also, were you going with palladium ??

I don't care for bypass rings... they always seem off-balance to me, like they want to be straight, but just can't get there. I don't think it's possible to get a band to look right with them unless they are sort of... well, weird shaped (not symmetrical) to sit against the ering.

Of the rings you posted, I like the original #2 the best. It looks more balanced and solid to me - different without being different, KWIM?

this!

honestly it looks like it would fit a wedding band just fine, it looks basically like a regular diamond setting, but just has a slight split shank with one part being pave and one not. its very unique, but not as "look at me im different!" as the other one. Which, again, i think is a positive thing for a ring you are buying without her input

I think that is a sound strategy. And it's true that if she prefers a simple setting, you can change it out and save money! It's true that the solitaire is the classic engagement setting, But not everyone likes them. I made sure my hubby knew I didn't want one  In the end, you know your girlfriend's personality and tastes best so get her what you think she will love. Given that she wants a surprise, I think what she cares about is that you picked it out.

Well said .. thank you! I think she would be perfectly happy with a simple setting, but I would like her to be more than perfectly happy and have something special & unique. Hopefully I get it right!

I have a bypass style ring and love it. The organic shape is so nice on the hand. Like others, I'm not totally in love with the two options you posted....

Here's one that it similar to the one you posted, but I think looks a little more bypass-y.

I think semi-bezel bypasses are awesome:

I like those rings ... thanks alot for making this easy! :twirl:

The first one is now in play. (The second one is a little over the top and would also bust my budget.)

Thank you!
