Hey everyone,

I will be going to see this stone in person tomorrow:

Princess 1.505 F VS2 $11,998
http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-2265077.htm

Any initial thoughts/comments? Is there anything in particular I should be looking for when I see it and are there any specific questions I should be asking?

From the specs, the 78.2% table seems pretty high--is this correct? How would a higher than ideal table impact the look/performance of the stone? Is the girdle too thick? (Again, asking all this sight unseen--just going by the numbers...)

Thanks.

Three thoughts for you:

1) Non-rounds are much more difficult to quantify on necessary stats than rounds. Though others here have made some science of it, consider that AGS has done much of that work for you, and relax on the stats.

2) But, don''d just trust AGS, verify. Ask them to show you some of their best GIA, and report back to us on whether they''ve done a good job.

3) While there, tell them Ira asked you to show them this one, and then (sshhh...) while they''re not looking, pocket it, and send it to me!

Best wishes!

you''re too much ira.

i think the diamond looks very nice chump. ags has made finding great looking princesses *much* easier and this f/vs will be a beauty!
let us know how it goes!

I suspect that a wider table, in this particular stone, will show more red in ASET.

Could you ask them for an ASET picture for me?

Thanks for the input, everyone--I will compare the stone against other high quality GIAs and request an ASET as well (red is good right?).

Ira--my goodness, that is a whopper of a stone...

Thinking ahead, should I like it and consider the purchase, is the step up in price for 1.5 ct that significant? GOG has a high quality AGS ideal 1.262 ct for $8,675. This 1.505 ct is $11,998. That''s more than $3K (almost 40%) more for just 25 points!! If this is indeed standard pricing structure, then I''m inclined to just pay the incremental $$ to step up for a 1.6 or 1.7 ct. Better return I would think... Thoughts on this?

Many thanks.

It''s not just the 25 points you''re paying for....it''s reaching the 1.5 plateau. It''s one of the "marks".

I had a great meeting with Brian--he seems to know just about everything out there when it comes to these sparkling stones!

I think the larger table definitely contributed to the sparkle vis-a-vis some of the other stones I was looking at. I still feel like such a novice and wasn''t even sure if I was looking for the right things, but I eventually relaxed and simply looked with Brian''s guidance.

Thanks for everyone''s comments so far!

I always wonder if people who go in to see stones come out feeling any differently about what they THOUGHT they wanted in a stone. Did you get to see other colors and clarities than F and VS2? A different shape?

As I chew on my choices tonight, I''m really torn between two stones. This stone has just about everything I''m looking for, but Brian showed me another stone that seemed to be cut a bit better--it had more intense flares and had them more frequently. That''s what I want!! However, that stone was H color--I have realized that I really like the icy white of a DEF. (I saw different colors and know I prefer DEF. I did not look at other clarities or shapes--I know for sure I want at least VS2 and Princess.)

If I could just combine these two, that would be perfect!!

I''m starting to think that I''m being too picky--amazing with the inventory that is the "internet," I can''t seem to find what I''m looking for. Then again, I''ve only been looking for a bit more than a week so perhaps I should be more patient... Do I need some sense knocked into me?

BlueHammer is going through the same thing with some WF rounds: F or H.

Any way you could post the link for the H? I think it''s on hold for you.

Okay!... After not getting any sleep Thursday night and struggling with my various options, I went back to Whiteflash on Friday and decided to go with the 1.505 F VS2 AGS0 Ideal Princess cut (ASET and IS attached). I am pretty darn picky with respect to the "specs" I was looking for, and I recognized that there just isn''t a great deal of AGS0 Ideals to choose from.

The 1.505 stone is absolutely beautiful. However, as some of you may have sensed, I was a bit hesitant. If I saw the stone by itself, I think it would have been a MUCH easier decision. However, as I alluded to earlier, Brian tempted me with one other stone that turned my world upside down...

JulieN, to answer your question, there IS no link for the other H stone. That''s because it''s one of Brian''s first A Cut Above Princess stones. Yes, you read right--I believe he will be launching the new ACA Princesses shortly and I was given the opportunity of looking (and possibly buying!) the first one. As I said, it certainly had a noticeable difference in the fire and flash vs the 1.505, if ever so slightly though. Since it''s still so early in the process, there just wasn''t the supply of ACAs so I was only able to look at just a few of these new cuts.

In the end, I "went with my heart." I only noticed the slight difference in flashes with the stones side by side. On a standalone basis and to the "common, untrained eye," you probably could not tell. But I indeed could tell the color difference with the F vs H color. I have always wanted to give my girlfriend a pure, pristine, icy white diamond and that''s why I went with the 1.505 F. That stone is actually an Expert Selection because it was one of the stones developed during the R&D process for the new Princess ACAs (the larger table being the missed "final target").

Either stone would''ve been the "right choice." I know the F stone was right, even if it meant passing on being the first owner of a WF ACA Princess!! Thanks everyone for your input, advice and suggestions. This is only step one of a VERY LONG process, but I''m glad it''s done...

Oh, very nice!

John has been hinting at the ACA princesses, can''t wait to see them.

And thanks very much for the ASET. It looks like a flower instead of the usual X.
