What do you all think of this setting? It's more or less decided it's the one I'm getting with a 1.2 - 1.6 ct princess center.
Does anyone have this setting that they could post pictures of? (It's Simon G. MR1395)

I think that the shank is gorgeous, but I''d be very nervous about having the diamond set en pointe that way. Knowing me, one good whack would shatter my stone or at the very least chip a corner.

Very unique! :) That will look amazing!

Melissa, I''m curious-- how would having the diamond "kite-set" be different than having it set the usual way? I always thought as long as the corners on a princess cut were protected it should be ok.

I''m curious about the same thing because I''m thinking of having an older ring of mine redone like that. Melissa would you mind elaborating a bit on what makes it more vulnerable if the corners are as protected as a normal set.

Thanks very much.

I seriously adore this setting. Had I not just gotten my e-ring, I would look at this one. Nice. Maybe the square prongs that go around princess corners would make it safer, if that is a true issue with this setting (I have no idea, just saw the other post).

Melissa,

Just curious, but wouldn''t having a princess set en pointe be pretty much as safe as having a marquise set north-south? Or is that not safe either? Thanks in advance for answering.

I love how unique that setting is and I would get it set on point to keep the uniqueness!

I love this setting for a princess, and the way the band fits is just perfect. I alos bet it will look more delicate in real life, have you tried any Simon G on? I've been looking into Simon G settings too, my jeweler said they come with a lifetime warrenty on all the stones, but he's yet to see one come in to be repaired, he says the quailty is just amazing. I noticed alot of Simon G settings have the kite-set, I'm not sure how I personally feel about it, something just looks off to me, but it's totally a matter of taste, and you can always get them to rotate it anyway you like though. Good luck  and keep us posted.

I think it's a very pretty setting! :appl:

Mmmkay... so I could have sworn that I replied to this thread last night.... but I think it got eaten.

Thanks for all the input ladies, I also am in love with the kite setting. The jeweler said that it was safe for me to wear
and they would not set it otherwise as they insure their work, and would then have to spend time/money fixing it :rodent:

The only thing I'm considering changing is the twist. I was thinking about a pave band that is straight, rather than with a twist.
I love the classic look of a solitaire, but think the kite set adds a bit of flare. The reason I've been thinking about the straight band is because with this (above) setting, I have to get the 'matchy' band, no other band will sit flush with it. :blackeye:
