I'm pretty knowledgable on diamonds, but total beginner on sapphires. My wife really likes Tiffany & co. items, although very expensive! I am looking at the Embrace 3mm, here is the link... https://www.tiffany.com/jewelry/rin...-GRP01359/tiffany-embrace-band-ring-15400498/

I'm just wondering if the Tiffany sapphires are extra special, or if they are more or less ordinary? I've seen prices for sapphires all over the board, and many cheaper options at malls etc. Also, a blue nile option which is similar, although the stones don't seem to be as pleasing of a color to me.

I don't live close enough to Tiffany's to be able to view in person easily. Any tips or advice for first time sapphire purchase? It's for our 20 year wedding anniversary.

Does she like it because of the style , in which case you can get a similar one from another vendor; or because it's Tiffany?
In other words, how much does the brand mean to your wife?

Blue Nile sapphires are hir or miss when it comes to a beautiful shade of blue. If she wants a Tiffany ring, the price isn't an issue, go with that. White Flash does do a similar anniversary style ring if you want another vendor, that being said, sapphires can be tricky.

Yeah, unfortunately my opinion of having seen Tiffany sapphire bands is that their sapphires can be hit or miss too. They don't guarantee lack of treatment or even that the treatment is limited to basic heat treatment, so I don't know that you're getting sapphires that are significantly different than you would anywhere else. The Tiffany website picture of this band looks highly edited and like the sapphires are a brighter blue than the Tiffany sapphire bands I've seen in person or listed on secondhand sites.

Look at something like these:

That said, if she wants the Tiffany ring because it's Tiffany, then the extra price you have to pay is for the special feeling of the brand and the "blue box moment."

Also though if your budget extends to buying both and returning the one you like less, that would certainly be a way to do it and be sure.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like color can be hit or miss at either store. I guess I will have to pick out my favorites and purchase and then return what I don't like. I appreciate the help.
