Hello all. New to this forum. I've been reading around for the last few hours, trying to pick out an ideal diamond for my lady. I'm looking for a 1 ct princess cut around the $7000 level. At first, I was just going to check out tiffany's, as one had just opened up nearby, but I'm under the impression I could just find a better bang for my buck online.

So I noticed these two:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2568620.htm

I thought you could help a guy out with some of your opinions. Bc honestly, I'm a little overwhelmed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, things might be a little rushed for me. Looks like there's a bun in the oven. :D

I'm not a princess expert but both of the stones are AGS 0 so they are as good as it gets for princess cuts. Either one is going to be gorgeous.

So I think I've narrowed it down to these ones:

https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2517192.htm

I'm mostly basing this off the ASET pictures. Any opinions based on other criteria would be greatly appreciated.

Also I was looking for a setting. I'm thinking just a four prong solitaire. Something simple. Maybe a cathedral. What do y'all think???

I prefer the small table on the WF F.. the other WF I think will be visibly out of square on the finger, and price difference between the WF F and BGD G is negligible - would rather put money into colour than VS1 clarity..

Gah! As a diamond newb this is pretty stressful. And learning more as I go along makes the decision even harder!

So I'm gonna throw these three against each other and explain my thought process so you can all tell me if I'm headed in the right direction.

So the criteria to begin with was:

Princess cut
~1.00 ct

#1. https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2517192.htm

This was the one Yssie recommended.
Now I chose this one based on the IS. I had read that the blacks would represent more "fire" in the diamond. There seems to be a lot, and pretty evenly dispersed. But is it too much?

I threw these two in the mix based on the princess cut guidelines chart in the "Knowledge" area:

#2. https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2517148.htm

#3. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-detail/?product_id=AGS-104047574003

They fit in the cut class 1A criteria.

What I'm looking for is something that really sparkles. I also want to know I did the best with my options.

...I think I'm being a tad bit neurotic with the stone choice.

they all look great. I'd take the G VS2, it's the biggest.

Well, honestly - if you want fire from your princess you are better off choosing a 2chevron type (like Infinity princesses), with bigger facets - it will have more real-world effect than a smaller table, or contrast blacks. Your choices are all 3chevron. "Sparkly" and "fiery" aren't the same thing to everyone - so your best choice depends on what you want to see, and what you actually do see also depends on your vision! Of course all stones will show *some* coloured light and some white light, in direct sunlight or jeweller's spotlights all stones will show colour and in diffuse office lights all stones will be white, the question is what sort of balance you want in in-between lighting types.

Yes, you are being a bit neurotic :cheeky: A bit more background on the idea behind the blacks=fire bit, if you are interested - but I would not recommend trying to use such tiny details to narrow your choices by eliminating from those three, they are *all* beautiful stones and there are far better ways to choose, now, like vendor/setting preferences, price, your personal comfort zone of size/colour/clarity...

In any case - given two flashes from the same neighbourhood, one bright white and one coloured, your eyes will see only the bright white higher-energy flash. The black areas you see in the IS (blue in ASET) are areas of contrast ("obstruction") that are created by you bending over the stone to admire it - those areas are reflecting what is directly in front of them, that is, your head and hair (darkened because you're bending over and so no light is hitting your face). Any light that you see these areas emitting is the result of a light ray entering the stone at some other place, internally reflecting, and subsequently refracting out of the stone in this area. Every time the ray is internally reflected it separates a little more into its component wavelengths, like light from a prism separates, and then when it finally exits it separates further, meaning that at that point it's quite a large dispersion that is sufficiently separated for you to see just one wavelength - blue, or red, or yellow - depending on where your eyes are and what angle of the dispersed ray they catch. Since there's no direct bright white light to reflect back to your eyes (your head is in the way - the only thing they can reflect is your face/hair) there's no high energy distraction from the dispersion, so you're that much more likely to see the colour.

What this blacks=fire idea doesn't consider is facet size, and proximity of neighbouring non-obstructing facets: A) larger facets allow larger, higher-energy flashes of light, both white and coloured, B) dispersions combine, so prism outputs from ten teeny tiny facets will mingle back into white - and they likely won't be spready enough for your eyes to make out individual wavelengths anyway, even if they don't recombine, C) a dispersion from an obstructed area will be overpowered by a white light flash from an adjacent non-obstructed area, if both reach your eyes at the same time. A smaller table means crown facets are spread further apart, reducing the likelihood of your eyes simultaneously picking up outputs from adjacent facets.

So I looked at the Crafted by Infinity Diamonds and they are indeed beautiful. But they are also out of my price range :(

I've been looking at some two chevron princess cuts. Opinions once again please.

#1. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/8121/

Good price.
High on B-scope (i know, not totally reliable)

#2. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/8123/

Measurements are a little off square.

#3. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2612495.htm

#4. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2594768.htm

Bigger.
It's SI1, with cloud on the table. Was told that it was eye clean.

I'm usually an impulse buyer, but I know this is an important decision. Interestingly enough, it's made me nitpicky.

Thanks again.
