Unfortunately we cant tell anything about fancy cut stones by just looking at the numbers. We need up-close pictures and aset
images to look at the faceting pattern and to see how well it is reflecting light.

If you have either of those (or a link to the reserved stone), please post and we'll have a look.

Hi all,

i have the aset and close up image - what do you all think?

The Aset is not looking good. The aset should be taken looking straight down into the stone

This stone looks poorly cut. The faceting pattern does not look very pretty either.

What kind of cushion are you looking for?

You might want to read through this thread...basically where it talks about all the different kinds of cushion cuts. You'll be
able to see the different faceting patterns and figure out which ones you like.

Is the one you posted an old cut cushion? Old mine? Antique cushion?

It has a GIA certificate from 2009. Don't know if it's vintage or not. It's the diamond I've been offered by a trusted seller on here. Just wanted to get opinions before I take the plunge and get it on a halo setting.

I think it's got yucky faceting. And the ASET is underwelming.

Should I be looking to ask for another diamond then?

Hi all - sorry to bump this up but I kinda need to know what to do as need to go back to jewler ASAP

Pass on it

The diamond is very shallow for a cushion cut. It will look big for its size. What are your goals and what attracted you to this stone?

Throw it back! There are much better fish in the sea.

And honestly, any jeweler that would show you that would worry me.

Drop your clarity to eyeclean SI1.

Allow color to H.

And emphasize that faceting and light return are most important to you.

It will be set in a micro pave halo ring in platinum. My aim is have a beautiful stone that will last years and will sparkle and look incredible.

I'll see what else they have

I too worry about a jeweler that would pick that stone for you. Is your budget in-line with your expectations? Just trying to
figure why someone would pick that stone for you. Did you look at that link and figure out what sort of look in a cushion you
want? That information and your budget would be helpful to show you what you should be looking for in your budget.

Is the vendor picking the stone also doing the setting?

I would never go with that stone.

Edit - looks like your vendor may be trying to get you some size on a tight budget? (as someone already stated, that stone is very
shallow)

I like the cushion brilliants. But what I'm after is a trimming ring that looks beautiful.

Yes, the vendor is doing the setting and stone. I had a choice of 3 but this stone was recommended. Not paid a deposit yet. Budget is around $5k. Looking to pick it up from NYC in 4 weeks time. I live in London so having to speak to vendor on phone and email.

I've emailed back asking for other stone options - would very much like any help you guys can give me to get this purchase right. You've all been great so far

$5k for the stone alone? or Stone and setting?

$5k for setting and stone...

I also have an option to get one in London custom made for $6,800. That ring is a custom made castle setting platinum halo with a 0.8 F VVS1.

What would you do? Is there a vendor I should speak to in NYC? I've got 3 and a half weeks until I leave for NYC and probably need to make a decision about where I get the ring in the next couple of days as the London jewler would need to start working on it on Wednesday...

What do you think I should do? I'll speak to the NYC jeweller today - but does anyone have any recommendations of who is best placed in NYC to assist me?

Brilliantly Engaged or Good Old Gold are very recommended on PS for cushion cuts. I have purchased a diamond through BE and I just gave them my desired specs and budget and they had a handful of diamonds to show me when I arrived for my appointment. You will need to give either vendor an idea on what type of cushion you want, so I recommend spending time on their websites looking at different types a cushions to determine what you want first. Are you getting the setting in NY as well? That will be a challenge if you want a halo because halos are usually custom to your stones specs. GOG would be your best hope for having a stock setting that would work. But I recommend talking to both vendors and determining your options before your trip. Good luck!
