Opinions on Citrine Ring from Macy''s

I normally would not look at jewelry at Macy''s or other department stores, as I don''t think it''s of very high quality and is pretty overpriced. However, I was buying a watch today and was browsing through the clearance section as I was rung up when this ring caught my eye. The price was originally $1200 (laughable), but the clearance price was $300, which I thought was a reasonable deal. My DD''s birthstone is citrine and I have had my eye on something similar (very large citrine in simple 4 prong yellow gold setting). The window is not nearly as noticeable in real life as in the photo. It is completely returnable, so if you think I can do better, please feel free to give honest opinions. I know I could get a better cut stone by going to one of the precision cutters and buying a setting separately, but that is a lot more work and I am inclined to keep this one if it is not a total ripoff/piece of junk. Interestingly, the tag on the ring is not a Macy''s tag, and it says "consignment" - not sure what that means as I didn''t think Macy''s sold on consignment. Anyways, let me now what you think.

Here''s the first pic - this is the closest to the actual color I see.

Here''s a handshot. There is definitely a window, but it''s not as obvious IRL as in the pic. It also needs to be sized down quite a bit.

wow - that ring has serious presence! :) it''s a great colour

i would keep the ring- i think just for the size of the ring it is worth around $300.

I think its pretty.

It sure is a honker of a stone and one statement piece!

That’s super huge and I was expecting a super fancy setting since it’s from Macy’s.

Since it’s already set and considering the price of gold today, I don’t think you were ripped off at all.

I always look at jewelry, no matter what the store, but I usually don''t find anything good. It looks so much nicer than I expected from your written description! I''d keep it!

It looks huge and very nice on your hand.

I agree with all of the above (though I''m no expert on price), it''s a huge rock, and very pretty!

Wow, huge! I like it!

I have a number of loose citrines and enjoy the various shades and hues it comes in -- the stone in your picture is a good size and looks to have nicely saturated color with no zoning. While I agree you could probably find a better-cut stone, if that ring setting is in 14kt yellow gold and is as well-made as it appears in the photo, you''ve more than received the value of your money in that alone -- the lovely golden citrine is almost a bonus!

Thank you all for your posts - I think I will keep it! I really like it, and it''s just meant to be a fun piece in DD''s birthstone. I was just second guessing myself since it is from a maul store. I do love the precision cut stones and own several RHR with Dan and Barry stones in LOGR settings, but with an infant and working full time, the instant gratification of this ring is very nice.

Very pretty! And so sweet that its your DD''s birthstone.

I love it and LOVE the cut...even with the small window! I say good buy and if you dont want it ill buy it from ya for 300 LOL!! I have been on a sunny orange kick!
