Hi all, what do you think about this one? It's vintage and the seller knows it's natural, but she doesn't know the treatment. I'll drop it off later this week to my jeweler to assess the treatment. Please excuse my hands, I did a peel last week. Tia
I think it's pretty and a pretty ring. I forget if you were also cross-shopping with Inken but it would not be that caliber. I'm guessing that it's shallow and perhaps with a window and, seemingly, a lot of inclusions and not a ton of light return. I like the pinkish-red if that is accurate. Nice low profile. Design seems to "work." I'm guessing it might light up in full sun. For the right price, I would buy it. It would not be anyone's "grail" ruby, though -- does it need to be?
I would feel better if I could confirm that it is an original period piece and that it is, at worst, heat-only.
@LilAlex omg no, my budget is a fraction of that, you're another thinking of another buyer. It was an ebay purchase from a pawn shop and GIA confirmed today that it's natural and not glass or anything filled. I'll know if it's heated or not later this month. I adore the setting. Another picture indoors, I'll try to get some in the sun, if we get any, tomorrow
It's very shallow. Like veeeeery shallow, practically one big window. That's my biggest gripe with it (I don't mind inclusions). If it doesn't bother you, you've got a winner.
I absolutely love that design. And I love the colour in the sun. If the price is right, go for it, even when it is not a high end stone. You will still have a wonderful setting!
I like it! I would not pay a premium price for it but it is an example of a mounted way-suboptimal stone that is just lovely.
It is very similar to a pair of old Mogok "pancake" pink sapphires that my spouse wears in very simple earrings all the time. Same square-cushion, similar depth, similar color (although hers are a little pinker), even similar (lack of) clarity.
Are you the type to spend years after a purchase focusing on the negatives? (See: the diamond forums here). Or do you tend to embrace these purchases and continue to get joy from them? I could see a true connoisseur finding that this one did not 100% scratch that itch for a fine ruby. But I'd be happy to own that ring.
