Hi! I'm new on PriceScope and actually this is my first post! I came to PS to learn more about diamonds because I'm shopping around for a proposal ring. I hope that I can get a good diamond for a good price..

I went to view a diamond today the specs of the diamond is in the first picture below.
I viewed the diamond under the scopes and managed to use my phone to take a picture of the hearts and arrows image under the scope. Couldn't get a picture of the ASET and ideal scope images (from what I have learnt lately the light performance is good as I see very little light leakage).
The price quoted was about $5350 USD. What do you guys think?

It is well cut however, we usually prefer crown angles in the 34-35% range. Are you in the US? It's a tad expensive (not too bad though). If you can drop
down to an "F" you can get these stones that are Super Ideal Branded ACAs (Ideal cut, aset, idealscope, H&A images and videos).

You are pretty high on the color/clarity scales.

If you are happy with the cost/deal it looks to be a nice stone. I wish you could have gotten a pic of the aset image.

Hi! Thanks for your inputs! I'm not from the US if not I would have gotta my diamond from Whiteflash. The ACA ones are really pretty! And I wished I had an ASET image... my phone just couldn't take a sharp image from the scope. Thats a real bumper.
I did asked for a 0.81carat, F, VS2 diamond and it was about $4850 USD. However, I think the light performance was slightly poorer compared to this one. More importantly, the 0.83 carat one is much more bling under the same lighting condition!

Any more insights from the season buyers and experts here?

it is a decent stone I would buy at a right price, which is $4k for me.

At $5.3k, we should be talking 0.9c D/E/F VS, not 0.8x

Is this from Poh Kim? Haha.

As @flyingpig stated, you can get a 0.9ct ideal cut with same stats and same amount of sparkle (since it is ideal cut) at that price if you purchase it online.

You are paying USD1k more in order to see the stone in person but that’s expected in SG. Try viewing diamonds at CJ Diamonds as well in case he may be able to give you a better price for ideal cut stones. You can just send him a whatsapp message (number on his website) and ask him what is his price range of a stone with similar specs. Consider going down in color as well as considering VS2 which can still be eye clean. That will really maximize your value, maximize your budget and you may even be able to get a bigger stone for the same budget.

However if you are comfortable with Poh Kim and don’t mind paying USD1k more for their service, why not. I would still suggest asking Poh Kim for similar size diamonds of lower color and VS2 to check if you can see the difference. If you see no difference, makes sense to go for those as they are cheaper.

Hi @jadesilver ! Yes that is from Poh Kim! Haha! Are you jadeites in HWZ?

Anyway, I compared on Whiteflash and Bluenile, similar diamonds are more expensive compared to this one. Have to include 7% goods & services tax, conversion from USD to SGD and not forgetting the setting.

There was a 0.81ct, F, VS2 diamond at Poh Kim too but the fire and scintillation was lower compared to this one. Other ones the scope images were not comparable too thus I was happiest with this stone.

Thanks for your insights again and for the CJ Diamonds recommendation :)

Haha yes I am!

Can I suggest you get a quote from ConciergeDiamonds.com as well? I am buying my diamond from him. He is damn crazy good. I search the whole of Pricescope search function (that means all vendors like usacerted, b2cjewels), Singapore jewelers that I know of, Fonder diamonds, I cannot find diamond of my specs and price range. He is able to find a few options for me to choose from. Alone I cannot even find 1.

I would suggest you show him the Poh Kim diamond including the ASET images etc. Ask him if he is able to find a diamond with similar specifications and also send you ASET images, idealscope images and hearts and arrows images etc. Send him a picture of the setting you want so he can calculate the total estimated price for you. Overall I am confident that he may be able to beat James Allen/Blue Nile pricing and the quality is there (can check his Instagram for pictures of settings). And he will send you videos of the different diamonds in natural lighting so you can compare the sparkle before you decide. And photograph/video the ring before sending it to SG so you can make any design adjustments if neccessary. If you are open to buying online, I think it is worth it getting a quote from him.

For the bank wire transfer (3.5% off quoted price if you transfer by bank instead of credit card). Transferring SGD from DBS bank to US account is free. The exact USD-SGD rate used to calculate can be found here: https://www.dbs.com.sg/personal/rates-online/foreign-currency-foreign-exchange.page Haha I call DBS to check already. Because I had to calculate the exact price of my diamond. The insured FedEx shipping is around USD$120 (I checked by looking on B2Cjewels website for estimated, insured shipping to Singapore). Then you have the 7% GST.

For WhiteFlash I think it’s not comparable cos they carry Super Ideal diamonds which are more expensive than ideal cut diamonds.

Anw if you are happy with Poh Kim, definitely go for it. I think it’s always good to look at all the options. If ultimately you are most comfortable with Poh Kim, then the diamond looks good and it will be a good buy!
