In all my searching for setting it seems that it would actually be less expensive for me to go with white gold instead of having to have something custom in 14k yellow gold. I have worn white gold before but stopped because it seemed like it would turn yellow and I wanted something lower maintanence. I have pics of a yellow gold and white gold set, just curious as to what you think looks better, I''m having such a hard time deciding. Thanks

Hmm that is tough. I think both look really nice on your skin tone actually...but if you know that WG yellows on your skin quickly I''d probably vote for yellow just because of the maintenance issue.

Ditto.

Yeah, it''s unfortunate that it is like that, I could always save up a bit more and go platinum. I''m sure there are threads on this but does platinum tend to become dull ? My aunt had platinum and it wasn''t nice and shiny like the white gold.

I think both colors look good on your skin. I also turn white gold quickly so I go with platinum.

I like both colors on you. If you really like the white look, I would go with plat or palladium to skip the replating issues.

Both look nice! If you don''t want to maintain it, go yellow!

White gold

I think they both look nice, but I''m a bigger fan of white gold

Thanks everyone ! I think I''ll be doing some more research on the site as far as platinum and how it maintains it''s shine. I know I can find tons of handshots here for reference too LOL

Your skin tone suits both but if you prefer white gold why don''t you investigate palladium? It''s cheaper than platinum and won''t yellow.

You maintain the shine by getting it polished every now and then. But the nice thing is that polishing platinum won''t make you lose metal.

Not losing metal is a definate plus ! Looking at prices it''s interesting also that one of the settings I like is actually more in yg than it is in wg. I figured it would be the same.

Could be the volatility in metals right now?

Gold is at a high due to the economic instability. Plat prices have come down. If you don''t have a preference for color, you could shop around until you find the right convergence of beauty and economy. Nice price, nice look? Sold! :)

I agree that both metals look great on your skin, however due to maintenance, I''d go with YG, it also happens to be favorite

As much as I love the look of white gold I probably will just go with yellow. Darn my body chemistry and it turning white gold yellow. My half eternity band that I have now is 14k though. Nowadays most yg is 18k. I did get a quote from Whiteflash on something that is 14k, in a way I''m paranoid that I wouldn''t like it after it''s done. Or that I would like it in the cad images but not on me.

I prefer the yellow in the picture. If you look good in oranges, earthtones, mosses...go for yellow. If you look good in pinks, purples, primary colors..go with white.

Hmm, aprilbaby, I never really thought of it that way. I don''t really wear any oranges or mosses. I do have 1 brown shirt LOL I actually mostly wear pinks, blues, white, gray, though I''ve been told that I look good in either color range. Thanks !!

Here''s another question. If you have wg and don''t rhodium plate after years will it eventually turn yellow like it was yg ? Just curious, I still don''t know too much about how they mix these metals.

I think it depends on your alloy. Some wg kind of turns a "creamy" shade, sort of off-white. You start to see the yellow in the wg (since yellow is gold''s natural body color, anyway). I''m not sure if the kind alloyed w/ palladium turns as yellow. You would have to consult your vendor.

Sounds like you might be more drawn to the white color :)

I think I am a bit more drawn to the wg but I have that half eternity band that I love in yg. It''s tough because I think if I switch back to wg, I''m starting all over again and what would I do with the yg I do have now. On the flip side, if I stick with the yg and use the half eternity band that I have now I have to find something in 14k (that''s what my ring is now ) or have the custom job done. I think my problem is that there are sooo many options and sooo many beautiful rings to look at on this site, I just can''t decide LOL
