Opinions Needed on this Ring

I have been quite enamored with rings that have a few small stones leading up the the center stone, as in this link:

What do you all think of these rings? Do the side stones take attention away from the center stone? Do you think it looks cheesy or gaudy? Thanks!

This is pretty standard channel setting, PE.

I like channel settings with baguettes like this one but it's a matter of personal taste of course.
