Hello,

As I mentioned in my earlier post today (VS1 vs VS2 clarity), I received several offers from online vendors after asking for quotes via PS. I would very much like to hear your opinions regarding these stones. I would have loved to see them in person, but this is impossible at the moment: if I decide on one of them (or any other one online, for that purpose) it will be an overseas purchase for me, and I probably will not be able to see the stone in time for a return. However, I do plan to get it appraised by a third-party in USA so that my purchase--and the risk I would take--is worthwhile (when I say ''risk'' I don''t mean it in the sense of getting ''cheated'', but more like the risk I am taking of buying a stone without being able to see it myself--from a local jeweler, etc. I am not an ''upgrader'' by nature--what I buy, I keep, and this is major $$$ for me so I really want to find something I won''t regret)

1) This is the one sent by WF. It is the biggest among all, and I do like its stats, but it does have a crystal and a cloud right there, so I don''t know how eyeclean it will be (and I am rather picky about this, I''m afraid). Also, they don''t have the stone in their inventory, and so I have to pay for $110 to get it sent to their place--but wouldn''t it make sense to get it sent to an individual appraiser? I''m rather confused about this policy.

2) This the one sent to me by Dan Gillen from ERD today. Since I don''t know how to attach the scanned cert here, I''m just sending the link I found from GIA''s own site:
http://www2.gia.edu/reportcheck/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.showReportVerification&reportno=1112518990&weight=2.28

This stone is not in their inventory, so it may no longer be available, but I still wanted to bring it up, as it does seem to fall within Lorelei''s

cheat sheet stats. And the inclusions seem to be small, though I''d definitely have to check the visibility issue with this vendor too.

I don''t know why, but my gut feelings tell me that too many clouds in this one can''t be anything good. But maybe I''m wrong..

This is a VS1 and I think it shows..

These JA stones are both on their website, and seem to have pics, so I am assuming that they have it in their inventory?

These are some of the vendors who contacted me in response to my inquiry. Do you have any other reputable sellers out there whom you''d recommend me? Or is this pretty much the whole spectrum?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts,
Meandra

Numbers looked good on these 2.

The numbers on this one do not fall in our "usual" range. Its a tad deep and the crown
angle is a little off. Would definilty need an idealscope image to check for light leakage.

Linkys to make it easier...one minute please.
What specs are you looking for and what is your budget? A few more to check out.

Thank you so much tyty333--I tried and tried putting up a link for the stones, but somehow the box that popped up each time after clicking on the link never accepted the paste command (confessions of a Luddite

Your welcome! I''m sure Lorelei, SC, DD and some of our more experienced "prosumers" will be a long in a minute to help. I''m not
seeing much available in what I think your specs are.

tyty333, once again, thank you for responding to my message.

I''ve checked GOG but they do not carry GIA certs, so unfortunately I can''t shop from them.

I prefer GIA as it has more brand recognition in where I live (far, far away

)

I don''t have an iron budget, and could climb up to 25K. But I''d rather stay within 22-23K so that I''ll have some money left for wire transfer/cc costs, etc--int. purchases, as it turns out, are expensive..

But I want to get the best cut I can afford, so here I am..

Thanks for the linkys Ty!

Hi Meandra!

The first two from WF are probably non in house diamonds, they would have to be called in for evaluation, they do have definite potential from the numbers.

The ERD diamond also has potential, I know they can provide ASET images so you could ask Dan to provide you with one to post here, or an Idealscope image if they could do that, just ASET would be fine however.

The third JA diamond has great potential, ask for an Idealscope image for that one, clouds should not be an issue in VS clarity, its only occasionally in SI clarity grades that clouds might be of concern.

The fourth JA diamond is a well cut stone but I prefer the previous one to this, it is showing a very small amount of light leakage which might not be discernible in real life viewing conditions but overall I prefer the diamond above to this one.

GOG do have GIA graded diamonds Meandra so you could drop Jon a line and see what he suggests, explain that you know AGS are a reputable lab but would prefer to stick to GIA due to the brand recognition in your country.

Ditto the ladies.

What is opinion about fluorescence? If you do not mind it, this might be a good choice too.

Lorelei: wow, that''s some news to me.

Their website wrote that they only carried AGS, hence my conclusion. But I''ll definitely write to Jon.

Stone-cold11: Thank you for bringing up that stone to my attention. Fluoro stones round here are unfortunately frowned upon. Having done my reading, I realize that this is mostly ungrounded, but it''s difficult to break habits, and should the need arise, my stone should be marketable on both sides of the Atlantic. So no fluoro stones for me this time, unfortunately.

Let me say once again how much I appreciate all of your input--many, many thanks..

Hello,

Dan from ERD sent me the ASET pic of the stone (#2, to be exact, on the list)

http://www2.gia.edu/reportcheck/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.showReportVerification&reportno=1112518990&weight=2.28

I tried to paste it above for those who want to take a look at it again.

Your thoughts?
Its a good image, could be a definite contender.

These don't fall within your desired specs Meandra but here are GIA graded GOG diamonds,
