Opinion on this?

Honestly if she loves the ring then just buy it. 2400 isn't a bad price at all. Is it an ideal diamond? No. Could you probably get a better cut diamond for the price? Yes.

But if this is the one she likes, then that matters a lot.

One idea: if they have multiple versions of this ring in stock, can you ask for one with a better cut diamond? Or to at least see the GIA cert of alternative options?

I'm having a hard time buying that that is a .3 with halo on a size 7 1/2.

This is a relative look at a .3 on a size 7 1/2. The one on the right is a .6, which looks more like what she is wearing
if you ask me. I think you need to find out and be sure before you buy anything.

How much bigger does the halo make a ring look, half a carat? Larger?

My wife is a 7.5 and this is her 0.86 stone. The setting doesn’t have an identical halo but the swoops create a halo type effect if that makes sense.

I agree with @tyty333 that the stone/ring looks much larger than it should. Maybe you have the size wrong?

Excuse the bad photo — it’s not my strong suit. This is about 6-7 years ago.

I'm not convinced these are the same ring. The first from the website has relatively large stones in the halo and is more like a cluster which could give lots of finger presence even to a 0.3 carat center. The one in the photo looks like it has more halo proportions than cluster proportions with relatively smaller stones....Is it possible she tried it on with a larger center?

To all the questions above, I have no freaking clue. all I do know is whatever she tried on for US$2400 is the one she likes. Weather that matches with the pictures and videos I’mclueless at this point in time?

I’m on my way to White flash now I’m gonna visualize with my own eyes even though I tend to kinda agree with the people saying that stone looks bigger we’ll see

Stopped by Whitefish, and saw some nice diamonds. Both ACA and Precesion Lab Grown.

I also contacted David Klass, and that looks promising too. Just waiting on some more clarification from DK

Hello! I am all for buying the best deal and the best cut diamond but i honestly believe that even if you buy a bigger/better ring, your lady might be disappointed. With the price of gold right now being at the all time highest and the kind of ring that she has chosen (halo with diamonds, etc), i believe that the discounted price is fair. If you pay this and you buy the ring, you will be certain that she will love it and that she will be 100% happy with it. I think that this is the most important thing when buying an engagement ring. It doesn't matter what any member of PS believes. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. If i were you, i would buy the ring that she chose and loves and i would make her happy. That's my 2 cents. I wish you the best of luck!

I also believe that in Asian culture mind clean is having the highest colour and clarity possible while cut isn't as important. And in the whole scheme of things, she already knows what she likes and has tried it on. There won't be any surprises now of her not liking it.

Unfortunately, if what she tried on and what he buys is not close to the same size center stone/look, there is room for disappointment.
(Even if it's the same setting from Jubilee rings)

He needs to find out if what she tried on had a .3 stone in it. Doesn't look like it (to me).

I'm all for if she knows what she likes and she's found it, then buy it, but make sure it's the same thing.

(Like if you want a Tiffany and nothing else will do).

@diverg If you can get a hold of the store, can you ask for up-close pictures of the ring she tried on? As well as asking the GIA
of that center stone.

Good suggestion. I just sent a message to the store, but they are closed now so it will be late tonight at the earliest before I get a response.

Like several other folks, I have a bit of worry that the center stone in the picture of the ring on her hand IS NOT a 1/3 ct stone. I also suspect her ring size is NOT as large as your 'calculations'. Unless she has larger than typical Asian. If you will have a ring from the USA without the ability for her to try it on, have her measure around her finger even if only with a string she then compares to a ruler. I just measured around my ring finger and it is almost 2 1/2", 60 cm. Not certain what size ring I actually wear, I think maybe a 6 1/2"--the stone pictured is .51 ct.

@TXwidow did you mean to post a picture?

Ok, that (the above) looks more like a .3ish stone with the stones in the halo looking slightly bigger. Looks the same as the
$2400 ring you posted (but doesn't look the same as the other picture on her hand).

I say if that's what she wants, and she has tried it on, then I would get it for her.

If you were trying to do it yourself...the .3 stone would be a reasonable price, but the fact that gold is so high right now,
I dont think you would be saving any/much money on putting it together yourself.

I agree that the ring on her hand looks different too. I don't know what to think at the moment.

I may just also put it off for now. Try to go earn some extra money to increase my budget.

I'm going to let her rest tonight. At least, I hope she can rest. She has been dealing with our 2 month old with a fever. So she hasn't gotten much rest/sleep the last few days and nights, but the fever seems to have broken,Thank goodness.

The stone in the ring should be OK (GIA 6501329966).

@diverge, Be aware that it has medium blue fluorescence. This won't affect the appearance of the stone in normal lighting situations, but it will glow under a black light, such as you might find in a night club.

That's a Bonus - probably brighter too.... Also makes easy to tell the rings "real diamonds" (in the rare + costly not cheap, billion(s) yr old and came from a volcano sense) :)

This is a good point. It's a pretty clear differentiator from lab grown diamonds which typically do not fluoresce.

Just a quick update. She and I have a 2 month old child that was diagnosed with Covid today. Going to put off getting a ring for now to concentrate on the most important things in life. I will still get her a ring by the time I return to Thailand at the end of the year. In the meantime I'm going to work an extra job to pay for that ring cash, and to meet my obligations of my new family including an older teenage child of hers.

I've also been in contact with David Klass, and he has been wonderful in responding promptly to alll my emails. I'm pretty sure when it's time to pull the trigger, I'll be having him design my ring. Not expecting anything special design wise. I'm partial to the simple, elegant, classic Solitaire. I think my lady likes that too, but if she did seem to fall in love with that halo design. If she still wants a Hal, then she'll get a halo.

I do really appreciate all the help and advice I have received in this thread. @DejaWiz I'll be asking for you help in the future in finding the sparkly diamond I want at a great price.
