Hi all,

Been lurking for a while and my head is spinning from all the details, but I think I have all the basics down. It’s getting to that time that I need to find a diamond I like.

Can across this and caught my eye, it’s a little out of my budget, but can possibly swing it. Want to run it across you guys for your opinion on this round diamond.

1.What concerns me is the clarity characteristics: crystal, cloud, feather

how much of a concern is that?

2. Fair price for the diamond?

hope I posted all the details.

Thanks.

Hi lluuaapp :wavey:

This is what is referred to as a "60/60" stone. Some like them, some do not. I do think you can find a nicer stone with better optics for less money, while still getting almost the same dimensions (size).

What do you think of these?
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-dia...-g-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-236193 $4600 (HCA 0.9) also higher color

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-dia...-f-color-si2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-236236 $4640 (HCA 0.9) would need to see if it's eye clean (but it looks like it might be!)

If you would consider either of these, I would put them on hold ASAP. You can choose up to 3 to hold on JA. Also, you can have their reps answer any questions (like if it's clean or not).

I think that both stones posted above would be just as "eye clean" as the one you linked to... but I'd ask JA just to be sure. ;))

thanks for the suggestions, placed them on hold, they do look great (on paper)!

i will research them some more.

they both have tables of 55% vs 59%, I remember seeing same carat but different size tables, and it was pretty apparent, is 55% vs 59% that big of a difference when put side/side?

The James Allen photos and videos are of the actual diamond, so not just on paper... you get to see the real deal. :appl:

The optics will be better when the table isn't so huge and/or the stone isn't so deep. A large table will give larger "spread," but usually at the cost of "sparkle" factor. A deep cut will face up smaller and won't perform as well.

Have a chance to get this locally and one from James Allen.

Might be an obvious choice, but between work and over thinking at these diamonds all day, my brain is fried, but I think I’m leaning towards the James Allen. Want to get confirmation that the James Allen is (a lot?) better option than the local B&M.

What I’m weighing:
VVS2 vs SI2
HCA: 5.6 vs .9
Local B&M vs online
Price with same setting: James Allen is $200 more. If JA is the obvious choice, then I’m going to go with JA

I am so sooo sorry that I just saw this. You know which one I'll pick, but even by the numbers, the JA one is way better. An HCA of 5.6 is a miserable fail for optics. I just calculated HCA on a stone that scored 4.6 (terrible) and the comment was "only if price is your main criterion" -- JA wins out! ::)

Think about it this way...

What good is a VVS2 and/or D color if the stone doesn't perform?

EDIT: the JA is larger (not a lot, but still...)

OMG, I just noticed that the B&M stone isn't even EX cut!!! NO QUESTION ON THIS ONE, OP!!

JAMES ALLEN STONE.

Ended up buying the G/SI1 from JA. Had the gemologist look at it and was the best one in my budget.

Thank you Pricescope, and particularly msop04 for your suggestions.
