Hi everyone!!! I have received the CADs from BGD...thoughts??? the only change I want to make is to add a small metal piece on the sides of the pears, I don''t like that overexposed look (I tried some on and it just bugged me!)

questions:

1) does it look OK without the pears having the prongs on the...more rounded side? Would prongs make it too blocky/crowded?

2) anything...else? does it look good? comments? suggestions? ideas?

and other question...does the center stone need a small piece of metal in between the prongs? (going across) as in the photo below?

Not necessary, if the original design is design with that in mind, then the prongs will be designed larger for it to be stiffer.

Personally I like the design as is. But from the changes you'd like to make, it seems like BGD's stock setting would make more sense. Is there a reason you went custom?

Here's the stock 3 stone with pear sidestones:

lucyandroger I did consider the stock settings, but I don''t like the gallery view of them, and the custom is the same price (also allows me to make the band thinner and other minor changes)

I like!

If you''re doing crossbars on the pears are you going to add two prongs, too, or have the bar originate from the side of the centrestone where the pears are currently held?

slg, they are going to make sure to design pieces that are structurally able to hold the stones they''re designed for. I wouldn''t worry about the integrity of the setting. If you would prefer a different "look," then just talk to them about your likes and dislikes. Personally, I''m a huge lover of open profiles. Nothing is sexier for a diamond than to see the crown, girdle, and culet with no obstruction!

no, I just prefer the look with the crossbars there...I tried on several with the exposed girdle and it just bugged me.

yssie do you think it would look weird to have the crossbars originate from the side of the center stone? or would it look better with the prongs?

I think if you want a cross bar then you should add the prongs to the inner part of the pears.

But I really like the summer stock setting

And with the changes you are making it will look basically the same, esp. if you add the cross bar to the center.

I think you'd lose some of the 'pearishness' if you added prongs - that it would become more 'triangular', but I would worry that attaching the bar to the side of the centrestone might become bulky in that area?

Best ask your CAD person!

OK, I''ll e-mail them and see what they think about crossbars/prongs.

just for comparison, here are my previous CADs.

Personally I''m not a huge fan of the CAD design. I don''t like the side view with all the diamonds exposed like that. But then I went with one of their "stock" settings for a cushion with pears. I say stock, because the while the design is stock, they do a cad and recreate a ring for your stone''s dimensions for each ring they make so it''s not like they grab one out of the drawer and stuff your stone in it.

As for the pears having prongs, mine do and they are really delicate. You really can''t see them from the top and they don''t make the stone look blocky or more triangular. They are really well done. From the top view of the ring it''s like all you see is diamond blending into diamond. You don''t see a big ol prong separating the center stone from the sidestones. It''s really well done.

OK, sounds good. I like the swoopy gallery of this design but I had always wanted the sidebars, so I will get those.

Other question, will this look good with a wband?

I like the old CADs and think you should just go for a similar design! Perhaps with the "truth" style cross bar, which is a V shape?

It will look GREAT with a wb.

Another vote for the stock setting. I like the V cross bars for the sides better but I am a matchy type of girl.

yes Dreamer, this was the plan, except I think BGD was confused since I was combining some elements of different designs and may have been slightly excited when I was talking to them...I was originally going to get the swoopiness of the bottom of the half-bezel design combined with the center of the truth head.

will a band sit flush with this design or will it look really awkward?

I think there will be a slight gap, but it is hard to tell. I like a gap personally because it makes the e-ring anf wb seem like distinct entities which is something I really like.. If you want a flush fit then let them know, but maybe it will change the design a little.

Send them the original CADs if that is what you like.

Just ask them to add in a w-band in the CAD for you to see how it will lay out.

The CADs look good! I like both the open sides on the pears, and the truth head on the main stone. Though post updated CADs if you have em change that, in case it seems unbalanced. Should be a gorgeous ring!
