I'm sure my engagement diamond search story is not that special and different, but the girl it's all for sure is! Hope to get an opinion on two about a Whiteflash 0.81 ct H VS2 A CUT ABOVE® Hearts and Arrows Diamond.

Price and specs are right around what I'm looking for, but I really want to focus on brilliance and scintillation. Looking at the ASET and Ideal-Scope images, I can't help but focus in on multiple small areas of reflection between the hands on the face: the dark red triangular shapes on the I-S and the purple/blue shapes on the ASET. I suppose it's the same areas on the face-up image where there's small black triangles between the hands. Are these typical of Whiteflash's A Cut Above diamonds or most others of similar clarity (VS2?)

Just how much of an issue would these contrasting areas be in an everyday, normal environment (like in daylight, in the office)? Ultimately, I just want to feel this diamond is a great VS2 vs. a so-so VS2.

Thanks for looking!

The ones you circled in white are what I'm interested in lalala. Those small dark red triangles aren't as frequent/large in other Ideal-Scope images.

I'm guessing they aren't generally desirable for scintillation/brilliance, but not sure if this diamond's pattern is about as good as it gets for VS2s, especially if other specs/images support high scintillation/brilliance performance.

Perfect idealscope, those areas are nothing to do with clarity, they are contrast points. I believe they are reflections of the star facets, or, white circle is a reflection of the opposite blue circle (happy to be corrected).

Funny enough, I did come across that YDT article last night, but it didn't sink in until now, especially the paragraph below:
Please note, however that these are very tiny differences that you would most likely not notice with your eye. Furthermore, the dark areas that I circled can have a positive impact if they are more evenly distributed. Still, if you are there to make the really best choice this is what you have to do.
So I gather there are ACAs out there that have no/less dark areas, but as this one has them relatively small, not super dark, and mostly uniformly distributed, it's unlikely to be a negative impact?

Correct. Keep in mind that with these super ideal cuts, WF wouldn't put their brand cut name on a diamond that is subpar.

Have you looked at HP Diamonds? They also sell super ideal cuts and have the same upgrade policy as WF. I tend to find really pretty IS images on their site.

Thanks lalala, will look at HP too, though looks like they are rolling out a new website and don't have many/any videos up yet. Brian Gavin has most of the diamonds I've eyed, but the Whiteflash one is sitting in a sweet spot in price and specs right now ($4k & 6mm/6mm face & super ideal).

If you find a diamond you like on HPD, just send them an email and they'll make a video for you. You can't go wrong with any of the places you're considering.

Keep us updated with what you choose!

You are overanalyzing (or incorrectly interpreting) the images. I've never seen anything but great ACA idealscope or ASET images. This particular stone is great and you are unlikely to find a better price than Whiteflash for a superideal cut.

If you are really interested, I'd suggest you reserve it.

Thanks for your input too diamondseeker2006, I'm use to being analytical - day job seeping in. But unlike the day job of a dozen years, matching girl, diamond, setting, and budget is more daunting of a task, even after a dozen days (or so) of "trial by fire" experience!

I put in some questions to the retailers to on the other diamonds on the not-so-shortlist, but thanks all for helping vetting this Whiteflash one; it's up there for sure.

A very nice "no problem" stone..;))
