Hi all,

I have ordered an engagement ring from James Allen and it's under production. But I am having some doubts about the stone I have chosen. Here is the link for my diamond..

My concern is the CA (34.5) PA (40.6) combination. I have read some posts here which say that stones with this combination might appear darker face up. I would appreciate if the experts here can have a look at JA's 360 degree view and tell if this stone might have the same issue. Thank you for your help.

Your diamond scores just under 1 on HCA Tool. It could be a great performer. Others will likely weigh in. I’d recommend waiting until you receive it, examine it in different lighting environments, and decide if it is too dark, or if it’s as beautiful as you expect it to be. If it disappoints, return it, and look for something else. We will be here to help, if you decide to start over.

Congratulations! What I see on this diamond even without the scope anlysis its very performing one. :appl: So be happy =)2 and no need to worry...

Thanks for posting HCA result here.. Guess I will just wait for the ring to arrive and see how this stone performs under different light conditions..

Thank you for the assurance.. This is my first time shopping for a decent diamond that too online.. so I keep questioning myself if I made a right choice. Your post made me feel better already.. =)2

Thank you for posting these links.. helping a lot to understand the difference in performance of a similar stone. After seeing the video posted under this link.. I am even more convinced to give this diamond a chance and see for myself how it performs.

Check out the video under the below thread. The OP loves her diamond, but the stone has a score of 0.8 (34.2/40.7) and you'll essentially see similar darkening/head obstruction on the diamond when viewed close up blocking light path. Some still love the combo for light performance, some don't.

As a rule stones below 1 with excellent spread may show some darkness when viewed from 8 inches or closer. From 12 iches the stone needs to be under HCA 0.5 and will almoat certainly have excellent spread.
Most people rarely look at a diamond from so close up.
Slightly shallower diamonds like the one under discussion will rarely if ever suffer darkness.
Also FYI if a stone has top symmetry it can in my view go to HCA2.5

Thanks a lot.. it's definitely reassuring to know that this stone might not even have any darkness issues. I read some conflicting opinions here so I got worried. Also I am assuming HCA 2.5 is still a very good score for a diamond.

BS a test is to place a ruler between your eyes and Run your finger along and measure how close you can foucs.
You and others who will be looking closely can check your ability to focus close up. It will double by the time you are 50 ;-)
