Hi all,

I was curious what PS community thought about this diamonds light performance. On the AGS report it shoes grey/light leakage on the outer brim of diamond face. But on WF ASET image it does not. Which image is more accurate? and what are your general thoughts on the diamond? Any opinions are appreciated!

Thanks!

You mean the tiny notches of (lack of) colour right on the very edge of the face-up ASET images?

They are nothing to worry about in either version here.

They look different because the grading report is a computer-generated image that uses different, averaged angles for each coloured band from an actual ASETscope.

Also, ASET on a white background will give a different result/look to ASET on a black background - both can be useful in identifying light leakage.

Yes, I was refering to that image.

Are there any practical methods to visually check the light performance/ leakage of the diamond in person and without tools/scope

Not really other than checking with your eyes and seeing how you feel. None of the images look concerning at all.

You could hold the diamond under the table and check that it remains bright from edge to edge - the best cut diamonds will still be white across the whole stone, but poorly cut diamonds will often go dark in the centre and round the edges, which makes them look smaller.

Tell the jeweller you want to do this before you do it, just in case they think you are trying to steal it!

Check out Whiteflash home page regarding their stringency in labeling their A Cut Above line. The testing that has been done on those stones far surpasses anything we could do at home. You really don't have to question light performance in super ideal cut stones - the lab and vendors have done all of that for you!
